Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish. For more info on how to participate in this weekly post or future topics click here.

This week’s topic is “series I’ve been meaning to start, but haven’t” and boy do I have a ton of those. I’m actually one of those readers that prefer series over standalones. I just don’t want whatever bookish universe I’m in to end. I have a horrible habit of starting series and not finishing them. But for the past couple of years, I been working hard on completing some. Here are some of the series that I want to start the most….

Dead Witch Walking is the first book in The Hollows series that my friend Marisa has been trying to get me to read for some years now. Each year I say I’m going to start this series, but I never did. Hopefully I’ll get to it this year?

Cinder, a part of the The Lunar Chronicles series, is a series I did start, but I have yet to complete. I thoroughly enjoy retellings of classic stories and I like how Cinder has its own special twist.

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha Trilogy) is a series that everyone always talks about. I’ve heard that Leigh Bardugo is an excellent writer and the fact that this is a fantasy-adventure story sounds really intriguing.

Talon (The Talon Saga) not only has an awesome cover (feels like shiny dragon scales), but it’s about a society with dragons! I’ve heard mixed reviews about this series, but I’d still like to read it.

Three Parts Dead (Craft Sequence) sounds like such an awesome Sci-Fi story. It was recommended to me by a blogger a few years ago. I love that the cover has a woman of color on the front, since I don’t see a lot of that in this genre.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (The Mara Dyer Trilogy) is fantasy/paranormal novel that sounds right up my alley. The cover is beautiful, yet eerie which makes me want to read it even more. I was supposed to get this book last year, but I never got the chance.

The Diviners is another book I famously started, but still have yet to complete. It’s the first in a series by an author I very much adore (Bray is so underrated). From what I did read of the first book, I liked how they meshed historical fiction with the paranormal.

The Girl from the Well is a book that has been on my TBR for quite a while and I received a copy of it for Christmas last year. I tend to digest horror movies better than I do with novels, so hopefully this book isn’t too scary for me.

In the Woods: A Novel is a book that I’ve always seen on those recommended reads you see at the bookstore. I love a good murder mystery novel where I have to rack my brain to put together pieces. I can’t wait to read it!

Akata Witch is a book that a lot of my blogger friends have enjoyed, but I’m so mad at myself that I haven’t read it yet! The second book in the series is due to be released in the fall, so I should hurry up and get to it soon.

That concludes my list  Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t! What books do you have on your own list? Share your thoughts in the comment section below. 🙂

  1. I need to get into Diviners too. The book has been sitting on my shelf for too long.
Akata Witch is good and Cinder was fun, but I didn’t like Talon much. Would be interesting to see what you think of it.

  2. Aiyiyi, I’m just the same with series: always so excited to begin and then it fritters away (the excitement). Or, actually, it’s still there, but I guess it splits into tiny little pieces and attaches itself to other reading instead! Three series that I’m working on finishing this year are Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld series, which begins with Bitten (i’m on the last of 13, and, yes, that took some doing), Maya Angelou’s autobiography (I’m on the fifth of eight volumes) and I just started to reread the earliest volumes in Maud Hart Lovelace’s Betsy-Tacy series, in hopes of finally finishing that one too. (Yes, I’m still trying to finish series that I began when I was a little kid. Heheh) Good luck with your plans: you’ll need it!

    1. I still have to read the Otherworld series, I keep forgetting about it because I have too much on my TBR, lol. And I adored the Betsy-Tacy series as a kid, I think I almost got to the end, but I never completed it. I have so many uncompleted series from my childhood it’s ridiculous, I want to go back and e-read some, but I read so much as a child that I can’t remember some of the series I read. Good luck with finishing your series as well. 🙂

  3. I recently picked up a copy of In the Woods during a thrift store excursion! I don’t even typically read a lot of murder mysteries, but I’ve seen some really good things about it. Plus the cover is so attention grabbing 🙂

    1. I agree with you. I don’t tend to read a ton of murder mysteries, but there’s something so intriguing about the plot when I read the synopsis.

  4. I love getting into new serieses too, but my thing is that I never want to read them until they’re all the way finished. I want to be able to ask the internet if they end in a satisfying way. If they don’t that’s also fine and I’ll probably still read the series, but I just like to be forewarned. I also strongly endorse getting around to Rin Chupeco’s books. She’s such a creepy, awesome writer. I have her latest book checked out from the library now and I am psyched to get to it.

    1. I completely understand where you’re coming from. I have started series and then find out either it’s still being written or it has stopped midway through because the books weren’t selling well enough.
