Synopsis:

Soraya is so close to getting the boy of her dreams to finally pay attention to her—she’s sure of it. She’s finally graduated from high school, glowed up, and is ready to show her on-again-off-again, secret situationship Wes what he’s missing out on. And when she learns that Wes is heading to Italy on a trip with his fraternity brothers, Sora decides that there’s no better place to reignite a romance than the Amalfi Coast!

Under the guise of a graduation Euro trip with her friends, Soraya’s plan is make memories with her besties during the day, make out with Wes at night, and make sure she comes out of this vacation with the title of Official Girlfriend and Grown College Girlie. But vacations can be messy, and romances messier—especially when you’re keeping secrets from your friends, discovering your dream boy may be a nightmare, and spending more and more time with the sweet, wholesome, and supremely cute Italian boy whose family runs the B&B.

For a girl who’s a true believer in sure things, Soraya has to learn the hard way that there really is no planning for love—or an epic vacation.

Review:

“Maybe the opportunity to be happy is waiting there with its arms open and you just don’t know it yet. How do you know if you don’t try?”

This quote is the best way to sum up the story within Oh My Affogato! which not only takes readers on a vacation through Amalfi Coast, but also on a journey of self-discovery. Set among the backdrop of a European adventure to celebrate their graduation Soraya, Mari, and Anya end up getting more than they bargained for. Along the way through the first leg of their trip they will experience secrets that may threaten their relationship and the messiness that can come with vacations. Will they be able to enjoy themselves or will everything fall apart.

Ghorbanpoor and Ang do a great job of writing together as a duo for their first book and crafting a story that is fun, but also relatable. Through the lens of Soraya they are able to capture the uncertainty after graduation and starting to enter the world as a adult. Each girl deals with their own internal struggles and the fact that their friendship dynamic will change as they go to college. While enjoying her vacation, Amaya is faced with some hard questions about making decisions that will truly make her happy. And through obstacles she and her friends make, it’s up to her to make the right decisions.

This novel is perfect for a summer read or when you feel as if you want to be whisked away to a new destination. It’s immersive from the landscapes down to the culture the story is set in. Though it’s grounded in reality, the story has a lighthearted tone making it a easy read to enjoy. My only wish is that the story was a bit longer to explore all of the relationships in the novel. A fun read for readers looking for a lighter read!

Final Verdict:
