Wonderful Writers: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

wonder ful 2

Hi All! Wonderful Writers is a weekly segment that comes out every Wednesday! Every week I spotlight and discuss one of my favorite authors, books by them, and talk about their writing styles and such. I hope you’ll enjoy. Feel free to participate as well by writing your own post and as always you are welcome to use the meme/pic if you’d like (just remember to credit me).

I know it’s been a long while since I’ve done these posts so I apologize. I really want to get back into the habit of posting these weekly or bi-weekly so here is my first writer spotlight for 2015!

About:

Adichie is a Nigerian writer. Her first novel, Purple Hibiscus, received wide critical acclaim. It was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction (2004) and was awarded the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book (2005). Her novel Half A Yellow Sun which also received a positive response, was adapted into a film in 2014.

What I’ve Read (So Far):

  • Americanah

Why She’s A Wonderful Writer:

Adichie is an amazing woman! I was first introduced to her in one of my college English literature classes and was completely blown away! Though I’ve only read one novel so far, I feel like her narrative is just so powerful. She writes and gives these eloquent speeches about topics such as race, gender, and feminism. Americanah is a great story that is not only about  the story of a young Nigerian woman who emigrates to the United States, but brings up a great discussion about today’s society. I look forward to reading her other novels.

If you have not seen her TED talk “Danger of a Single Story”, I highly recommend it!
