What I’m Listening To… Get Motivated Vol.1

Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In this blog post series, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist of five songs.

For this month’s edition of “What I’m Listening To” I decided to feature some of the songs that motivate me when I’m stressed out or having a bad day. As you might have noticed in the title, this will be the first playlist in series for this theme since it was so hard to narrow it down to just five songs. I hope these songs will make your day a bit brighter and help you out if you’re going through stressful times.

1) Go The Distance (film version) by Roger Bart

You all might recognize this popular song from the Disney’s 1997 movie adaptation of Hercules. This film is just one of the many films from the”Renaissance era” that spewed out some of Disney’s most notable animated classics. It was also re-recorded as a pop version sung by Michael Bolton, who’s rendition of this song is also equally amazing. I love its positive lyrics about not giving up on your dreams and facing your future.

2) Fly by Nicki Minaj feat. Rihanna

This is one of the best collaborative songs from Nicki Minaj. It is one of the tracks off her her debut album Pink Friday, which is my top favorite album from Nicki to date. Rihanna’s smooth vocals and Nicki’s passionate rap lyrics make this song absolutely golden. On top of that, the MV and costumes set is full of stunning visuals. This is an inspiring song about overcoming all negativity and coming out victorious.

3) Life Your Life by Yuna

Treading into the Indie Pop genre, I present the lovely singer Yuna with her song Live Your Life. The song has a mellow vibe and sound, making it a very relaxing track. This is a positive song about living your life, chasing your dreams, and being who you truly are.

4) Tightrope by Janelle Monáe feat. Big Boi

Tightrope is an uplifting and relatable song  in which its lyrics deal with the issue of how in life it’s important to keep your balance. The music has a funky sound and old school feel that is perfect for the dance floor. I love Janelle’s style, dance moves, and the creative story line she sets for this MV. If you haven’t listened to her music, you will be blown away by her soulful vocals and unique music.

5) Ooh Child by The Five Stairsteps

The Five Stairsteps, known as “The First Family of Soul”, were an American Chicago soul group made up of five siblings. I actually discovered this song from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy and was pleasantly surprised that I had never heard of this group since I listen to a lot of 70’s music. This soulful track features melodic voices singing about how “things are gonna get easier” in times of strife.

And that completes my list of motivational songs. I hope you enjoyed this mini playlist! What songs motivate you? Comment below with some suggestions.:)

  1. Janelle Monáe is awesome. Simply awesome. This is cool. I might do something similar tomorrow. Right now I’m obsessed with hip hop, which is strange. It’s been so long since I’ve listened to hip hop because the raps have been wack. But yo! I’m so hooked on Fetty Wap right now. I don’t know why but I am. I love that 679 song. I had it on repeat all last week. I don’t even much like the lyrics when I actually listen to them but I’m so hooked!
And Drake. Hooked on Drake too. I guess I OD’ed on soca and dancehall and now I miss hip hop.

    1. Me too! I also like that Janelle does a fusion of music on her albums. It’s like a fun mix of R&B, Soul, Pop, Hip-hop,etc. I’ve actually never listened to Fetty Wap, but I do like Drake’s music. I’m not a big hip-hop person. If I do listen to it I like the songs from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

      1. Same here. I’m more old school Hip-Hop up to the early 2000s. That’s why I’m so surprised I’m listening to it now. I’ve been on a techno-rock-house music-soca-reggae-dancehall kick this whole time.
