My Favorite Things: August Edition

My Favorite Things” is a segment where I’ll share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. Hope you enjoy these personal picks!

Movies

The Wave

The Wave

This Norwegian film follows a geologist caught in the middle of a natural disaster. No one is really ready when the mountain pass above the scenic, narrow Norwegian fjord Geiranger, collapses and creates an 85-meter high violent tsunami. How will the town escape its wrath?

This film was not as good as I thought it would be. I’ve seen a lot of “(natural) disaster” style films, but this was just okay. The CGI effects and action were amazing, but the plot failed to keep me interested at times. The plot was incredibly slow at first and after some of the big climatic scenes I started to lose interest in the film.

Beauty

Nutriganics Smoothing Mask by The Body Shop

nutriganics smoothing mask

This is one of my favorite masks to use from The Body Shop. The Nutriganics Smoothing Mask is a deep cleansing treatment for the skin to help boost radiance and it leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. It’s got a similar texture like a clay mask, but it never hardens or makes your skin irritated (like some masks do). It’s easy on the skin and I loved how my face feels refreshed every time I use this mask.

Stitch (Tsum Tsum) Lip Balm by Lip Smacker

sitch lip smacker

Since I’m a big Disney and Lilo & Stitch fan, I couldn’t resist picking up this Tsum Tsum Lip Balm. The design is cute, and it smells just like blueberries! The only downside to this product is that it doesn’t have much lip balm for the price, because you’re really paying for the design. But it still makes a great small addition to any gift or for any one who’s a Disney fan!

TV

Stranger Things

stranger-things

This Netflix-original drama set in the 1980s stars actress Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, whose 12-year-old son Will goes missing. She and his close friends launch an investigation into his disappearance and as they search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries.

I was super psyched to watch this show after the first time I heard about it. I love thrillers, horror-themed, and sci-fi shows! Plus (for me) the style of the show is reminiscent of 80s classic films like The Goonies. The writing is superb, the acting is A plus, and it’s just an overall entertaining show that keeps viewers on its toes. I highly recommend it if you haven’t watched it yet!

The 100-Season 2

the-100

Finally I’ve begun to delve back into the world of The 100 which is loosely based off the book series by Kass Morgan. The plot surrounds a spaceship housing humanity’s lone survivors which sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth in hopes of possibly re-populating the planet.

Season Two wastes no time getting back into the drama and action from where Season oOne left off. The plot gets more twisty (if that even is a real word) and we get to meet new characters. The thing I’ve learned about dystopian TV shows/films is that soon as you think you’re finally found salvation, it’s too good to be true. And that statement definitely applies to this show.

Music

A Place With No Name by Michael Jackson

I hadn’t listened to the last album (Xscape) that was released by Michael Jackson and now I fell it love with it. There are some great funky, upbeat songs and well as some signature MJ ballads. One song that I’ve had on repeat is A Place With No Name. It’s catchy, dance-able, and I like the lyrics.

Precious by Esperanza Spalding

If you’re into jazz/R&B music, you should definitely listen to Esperanza Spalding’s melodic music. Precious is one of my favorite tracks off of her self-titled album, Esperanza. It’s a song about having to let someone go (in a relationship) and staying true to yourself.

Boombayah by BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK

In the K-pop music scene, BLACKPINK finally has made their debut after training for four years. I’ve seen them collaborate with other artists in their company (YG Entertainment) before their debut and saw how talented they are. Both Boombayah and their song Whistle not only are amazing dance tracks, but it also allows each member to show off their singing and rapping styles.

Miscellaneous

Red Velvet Candle by Yankee Candle

Yankee Candle’s Red Velvet candle scent is reminiscent of the sweet treat. Red Velvet is one of my favorite types of cake and I like that the candle doesn’t give off a super sweet scent when it burns.

Happy Planner by Create 365

happy planner

I recently bought and started my Happy Planner for 2016-2017 and I love it!  It not only keeps me more organized and I’m starting to finally get the hang of how to make it my own (decoration wise). One day I’ll have to do a post showing off my planner, how I structure it, and decorate it!

And that concludes “My Favorite Things” for August! What are some of your favorite things for this month? Comment below! :)

  1. I so so so loved Stranger Things, and it would probably top my list of favourite August things (although I wasn’t really thinknig of making a list – good idea). Like you, it appealed to the younger viewer in me (but still satisfied the older viewer who has some different expectations too). I didn’t want it to end, and I was so disappointed to find there were not 13 episodes in the first season (because 13 didn’t seem like enough either).

I haven’t heard of/noticed The 100. Did you read the books too? Is it even close to as good as “Stranger Things”? Also, I’m curious about your planner, because I’m looking for a new way to organize/structure my weeks.

Other fave things this month? A new find at a farmer’s market: a black-bean tortilla plate. Beginning Andre Alexis’ Quincunx cycle with Pastoral.Getting some new graphic novel rec’s from you! Learning a new cardgame: Wrong Chemistry. Great tradition!

    1. I haven’t even read The 100 books, I never knew there were books until I watched the show. I found out about the show through a booktube. As for Stranger Things, it was too short, but still very good! Season two is set to come out in 2017, so I’m very excited! 🙂 I’m still trying to figure out my Happy Planner and how to structure in since it just started in August. Hopefully I’ll have a post up soon. Black-bean tortillas sound amazing. And I’m glad you liked the recs I sent you. I’m always looking for new series or standalones so feel free to send some recs my way.

  2. That tsum tsum lip balm is the cutest thing ever! I would want a Tangled one ahah.
And I’m obsessed with planners so a planner post sounds awesome! haha
