favorite things meme

My Favorite Things” is a segment where I’ll share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. To keep this segment separate from regular post “Literary Wishlist” I’ll be featuring non-bookish things. Hope you enjoy these personal picks!

Movies

The Rear Window

The Rear Window is a 1954 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock with James Stewart and Grace Kelly in the lead roles. Stewart plays a wheelchair-bound photographer who spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder.

This movie was great! I love Hitchcock films and this movie definitely didn’t disappoint. The plot is slow-paced and moves very smoothly throughout the entire film. The suspense heightens at each turn of each new clue that is uncovered, and it keeps viewers intrigued of who is behind the crime. Stewart and Kelly make an excellent duo in this film, and they portray their characters well. If you enjoy classic mystery films, The Rear Window is a must watch!

*I plan on reviewing a slew of movies next month in a Netflix compilation post, so keep your eyes peeled for a new post coming soon!

Music

Know-It-All by Alessia Cara

Music newcomer, Alessia Cara, is amazing in her debut album Know-It-All. At age of 13 she began her own YouTube channel where she posted covers of songs that she performed and eventually she became signed to DefJam Records at 18 years old. Cara’s singing style has compared to singers such as Farrah Franklin, Adina Howard and Norah Jones.

Cara caught my attention with her debut single Here, which is a song for everyone who secretly hates parties. I like her smooth vocals on this song and others on her album. Her music is nice fusion of Pop and R&B.

Melting by Mamamoo

Since their debut in 2014 K-pop girl, Mamamoo, has steadily  been on the rise. Mamamoo is recognized for their retro, jazz, and R&B concepts and strong vocal performances that make them stand out among  the many other girl groups in K-pop. This group has some talented and stunning vocalists and rapper and since their debut single Mr. Ambiguous I have been an avid fan.

Melting is the first full length album from Mamamoo and it is excellent! I actually bought the physical copy and I love how the cd itself looks like an old vinyl record. Maybe I’m a bit biased, but every song on this album is golden. It’s complete with slow ballads, upbeat dance tracks, and jazzy mid-tempo tracks that are very mellow. Their signature vocals shine on this album and if you haven’t listened to this group you should give them a try.

While I was at Kitty Deluxe I also picked up this cute and stylish Frida Kahlo crossbody for $18. It was made by the shop owner’s mom and she also has some other pretty bag designs as well. Frida Kahlo is one of my favorite artists and I love the unique print of this bag.

TV

Master of None

master-of-none

Master of None is an American comedy-drama television series created by Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang. It stars Ansari in the lead role of Dev, a 30-year-old actor who attempts to make his way through life in New York City.

I’m still making my way through the first season, but I’m thoroughly enjoying the show. Some episodes are a hit and miss for me, but for the most part this is a pretty funny show. I like Ansari’s comedy style and the topics that each episode tackles. My favorite episode so far is the one about parents.

Parks and Recreation (Final Season)

Parks_and_Recreation

I just finished the final season of Parks and Recreation and I’m so sad it’s over! Sure, I can watch it again and again through Netflix, but there won’t be anymore new episodes. The writing for this show is great and I fell in love with all of the characters. The episodes are so creative and I love its mockumentary style. Has anyone else watched this show and if so who is your favorite character?

And that concludes “My Favorite Things” for April! What are some of your favorite things for this month? Comment below! 🙂

  1. I have recently fallen in love with Alessia Cara. She’s constantly on my Spotify playlists. <3

Also, Master of None is one of my favorite new sitcoms in ages! and of course, Parks & Rec is perfection.
