May Book Haul: The “Comic Con” Edition

It’s end of another month which means it’s book haul time! Summer is upon us and I’m working hard to stick to my TBR, check more library materials (in order to save money), and spend even more time reading. Usually, I find I’m a lot busier in the summer, but this year I want to squeeze in a much reading as I can. This month was quite eventful which you might have seen if you’ve been following me on Instagram. From comic conventions to pop-up cafes I had a lot going on. I managed to tackle some of those ARCs that have been sitting on my Netgalley shelf for way too long and tidy up my bookshelves some more. Because I went to comic con ,I was able to snag some awesome discounted comic trade paperbacks. My collection keeps growing larger and larger.

In other blog related news, keep your eyes open for a summer giveaway I’m hosting this month! I’m super excited to share some bookish goodies with you all. 🙂 Now enough rambling and on with the book haul.

Bought

The Wicked + The Divine Vol. 2-4 by Kieron Gillen (writer), Jamie McKelvie (artist): One of my newest favorite comics! Since they were being sold at such a good price I couldn’t resist. The artwork in this series is phenomenal!

Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Vol.1 – After Life by Al Ewing (writer), Rob Williams (writer), Simon Fraser (artist), Boo Cook (artist), Gary Caldwell (artist): As a Whovian, I decided to get the first copy of this series. I read the first issue and found the story to be really entertaining.

Rat Queens Vol.2-3 by Kurtis J Wiebe (writer): The women in this comic are not only funny, but kick-ass! Hopefully I can get my hands on the first volume soon.

They’re Not Like Us Vol. 2 by Eric Stephenson (writer), Jordie Bellaire (artist), Simon Gane (artist): I started this story last year and was intrigued by the story line. I’m looking forward to unraveling the mysteries within the plot.

Snotgirl Vol.1 by Bryan Lee O’Malley (writer), Leslie Hung (artist): The art style is cool and a lot people have been talking about it. I’m looking forward to reading it!

Archie Vol.1 by Mark Waid (writer), Fiona Staples (artist), Annie Wu (artist), Veronica Fish (artist): I grew up with reading Archie comics on a daily basis and I have high hopes for the reboot series.

Claire of the Sea Light by Edwidge Danticat: Dantincat’s writing is truly a please to read and I’ve been eyeing this book for a while.

The Perfect Affair by Lutisha Lovely: A suspenseful, thriller-esque book that I got from the dollar store. I’m always down for a good mystery.

Tsarina by J. Nelle Patrick: You all know how much I love historical fiction so I had to buy this. I don’t know a lot about the history this book is based on, but I always like to learn about new things.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han: I absolutely adore this contemporary series, so I’m trying to collect them all and add them to my collection.

Aquarium by Tomoko Taniguchi: I saw the cover and into the shopping basket it went. I always enjoy finding new manga.

Girl Out of Water by Laura Silverman: I have been following Laura on Twitter for a while and her debut book sounded so good that I pre-ordered it. That cover is giving major summer vibes. 😀

ARCs/Review Copies

Just In Case The Raindrops Fall by Marriel Harrison: I love contemporary romance tales, so I can’t wait to read this! The review will posted sometime in June.

  1. Oh I really want to get and read Snotgirl.
WicDiv is awesome! I didn’t like it at first but I reread it could months ago and now I’m totally hooked. The art is a major reason why. I heard the fifth one will be released soon or is already out.

    1. I love the artwork in WicDiv too, except the third volume that featured multiple artists was so confusing. Volume 5 was just released! 😀

      1. Yes!! Didn’t like that volume with the multiple artists either. It was a cool thing to do to switch it up some, but I didn’t like the art styles.
Ooowww, I need to go grab my copy!
