Favorite Holiday Films!

Since the holidays here I thought I would put together a compilation of some of my all-time favorite Christmas themed films I’ve watched over the years. Some are funny, some are mushy, and a couple will make you cry. All in all, you’ll walk away with a warm, fuzzy feeling in your heart after watching these films.

As to not repeat myself, I won’t be listing movies listed in last year’s list.

A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story is set in the 1940s and tells the story of a young boy named Ralphie attempts to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.

Who doesn’t love a A Christmas Story? It’s a must watch every holiday season for my family. The dialogue is entertaining, antics are crazy, and Ralphie’s desperate attempts to get the present he wants are hilarious!

The Preacher’s Wife

The Preachers Wife tells the story of Reverend Henry Biggs finds that his marriage to choir mistress Julia is failing, due to his constant absence caring for the deprived neighborhood they live in. In desperation, Rev. Biggs prays to God for help – and help arrives in the form of an angel named Dudley whose arrival seems to cause even more trouble…

This film actually is my top favorite Whitney Houston film. It’s definitely a feel-good movie and Denzel lights up this movie in his role as an angel. The soundtrack is amazing and it sends an overall positive message.

A Christmas Carol

This animated version of Charles Dickens’ classic novel about a Victorian-era miser is one of my favorite adaptations of this well-known tale.

I’ve seen plenty of versions of A Christmas Carol and this one tops all for me. Jim Carrey does a fantastic job of voice acting as Scrooge and I loved the detailed CGI animation that was used. I highly recommend this movie!

Four Christmases

In this holiday comedy, Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn team up to play a couple who struggles to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas.

This is a great film if you’re looking for a laugh out loud movie. Vaughn and Witherspoon make a fun pair and this movie and all of the crazy stuff that happens with each family visit was hilarious!

The Year Without A Santa Claus

In my favorite Rankin/Bass Christmas film of all time, a weary and discouraged Santa Claus considers skipping his Christmas Eve run one year. So Mrs. Claus and his Elves set out to change his mind.

I love the Rankin/Bass Christmas film and that their stop motion movies were so revolutionary in the time it was released. The characters are lovable and the songs are incredibly catchy.

Meet Me in St.Louis

In the year leading up to the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, the four Smith daughters learn lessons of life and love, even as they prepare for a reluctant move to New York during the holidays.

Best Judy Garland film of all time (in my opinion)! This has got some great songs and nice story line. I love the period costumes and overall setting of the movie.

Last Holiday

In Last Holiday, Queen Latifah plays a woman who learns she has a terminal illness. She  decides to sell off all her possessions and live life to the fullest.

Last, but not least is the film Last Holiday. It’s a nice, romantic comedy and it sends a good message about treating everyday as if it’s your last.

I hope you enjoy these holiday picks! 🙂

  1. My mom LOVES The Preacher’s Wife. My favorites would have to be Home Alone, The Grinch, It Happened on 5th Avenue, Santa Clause, Jingle All the Way and The Sound of Music….so everything lol. On your list I’ve only seen two, but I’ve heard of them. Great list 🙂

    1. I actually put Home Alone and Jingle all the Way on last year’s list. They’re such good movies! I also love the Santa Clause, but I have never heard of It Happened on 5th Avenue. Surprisingly, I still haven’t watched the Sound of Music.

      1. Ah okay, diversifying is good haha. It Happened on 5th Avenue is a TMC, it’s in black and white but it’s wonderful movie with a very relevant plot. OMG (sorry for the dramatics haha) the Sound of Music is wonderful, super long, but wonderful!

  2. Unfortunately my Dad has given my brothers and I a complex about A Christmas Story because he used to make us watch it MULTIPLE times every Christmas… when it runs for 24 hours? Yeah I could handle once a year, but 5? It gets old real fast lol.

OMG I haven’t seen The Preachers Wife in so long! I loved that movie.
