Today’s Topic: The Secret Life of a Book Blogger

1) How long have you been a blogger?

I just celebrated my second anniversary in April, so I’ve been going two years strong!

2) At what point do you think you will stop?

I don’t know at this point. I’ve only been blogging for two years, so it’s all still new to me. I do plan to blog about books for a very long time though. 🙂

3) What is the best thing?

The best thing about blogging is talking with other readers about books! It gives me a chance to share my thoughts about what I’ve read and prompt discussions about those books. I’ve also gotten amazing recommendations of books that I might not have read if someone had not said something to me about it. I also would also add-on to this by saying that I feel more connected to authors than before. I’ve gotten amazing opportunities to chat with writers by doing book reviews, guest posts, etc. It’s something I probably would have never experienced had I not been blogging.

4) What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?

Making sure I post on a regular schedule. I feel like I’m a lot more organized than I was before when it comes to scheduling posts, and balancing weekly segments, reviews, and other special posts I might write. Sometimes I do get off schedule, but I know I’m only human, so I just try to roll with it. For example, if I missed writing a book review for a certain day, I try to substitute it with another post.

5) How long does it take you to create/find pictures to use?

For the book covers I usually get them off the internet. I take copyright free images from websites like Morgue File and then I use them create graphics for weekly/special segments using Pic Monkey (I highly recommend it). It’s a very easy website to use, but I create my ideas from scratch so it takes about 20-30 minutes.

6) Who is your book crush?

I just can’t name one book crush, I have way too many!

7) What author would you like to have on your blog?

The hardest question ever! I honestly would be happy to have any author on my blog. But there are literally too many well-know ones I would invite to have as guests on my blog. But just to name a few…Chloe Neill, Meg Cabot, and Richelle Mead. I would literally die of happiness.

8) What do you wear when you write your blog posts?

PJs, sweatpants, and t-shirts. Pretty much any clothing that’s comfortable.

9) How long does it take you to prepare?

Depends on what I’m writing. My “Slice of Life” posts take the longest, and that usually because I’m adding pictures and writing about my experiences from memory (no note taking here). It’s about a 2-3 hour writing session. Since I’ve been better about writing notes during and after reading a book, it only takes about 20-40 minutes (depending on what I have to say about that particular book. The same goes for my other regular segments, and they take about 20-30 minutes.

10) How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

Everybody is very friendly and welcoming. I haven’t really run into any mean people since I’ve started blogging. If I do see something negative or unfavorable in a comment or post, it’s constructive rather being rude or downright nasty towards the person and whatever the discussion is about.

11) What do you think one should do to get a successful blog?

Hmmm….

  • Interact with other bloggers and readers – don’t just read their posts, comment and chat with them
  • Find your niche – find something that your blog will mainly discuss (ex. YA lit), but also explore other genres and topics in order to shake up your blog a little
  • Good scheduling – keep a consistent flow with your memes, book reviews, and etc.
  • Put yourself out there – participate in blogger events and tours, the more you do the more exposure you will get

12) Who do you tag?

Anyone and everyone who loves to read. 🙂
