Welcome to “A Month of Favorites”. This month-long event is hosted by Girlxoxo, Traveling with T and Estella’s Revenge. Throughout December I’ll be participating in some of these fun topics where I’ll get to share my reading experiences from 2014. To find more info about the blog event click here!

Today’s Topic: A Year In Books Timeline

January:

Set my reading challenges for the year, in an effort to push myself to read even more. I started to read books by the lovely Julie Kagawa and fell in love with her awesome stories and writing. The Iron King series is amazing and so is The Immortal Rules series! Kicking off the year by reading lots of fantasy!

February:

Got the chance to review a mystery and a historical fiction novel. The historical fiction novel was different from most historical style books I’ve read before, so I enjoyed reading something completely new to me! I also got to see the Vampire Academy movie adaption for my birthday! I ended up seeing it twice. 🙂

Lots of fiction/non-fiction style books this month. I read a lot for my Human Rights fiction class. Though I loved reading “The Little School” by Alicia Partnoy and (the somewhat confusing novel) “Anil’s Ghost” by Michael Ondaatje, “Sozaboy” by Ken Saro-Wiwa was my least favorite (and less appealing books of the year).

Finally started reading the “Graceling” series by Kristin Cashore, due to one of my good friends scolding me about reading this book. And now I understand why its such a great series! There’s fantasy, weird creatures, and strong heroine leading the story. Only three books reviewed this month, so not too much reading going on.

May :

Read a small dose of fantasy as in the previous months, but headed towards more of a YA, slice of life/real fiction direction. “Roomies” by Sara Zarr & Tara Altebrando was a nice novel that I wished I could have had when I was starting my freshman year of college. It would have helped me to see new perspectives, and relax a little more. I also read “The Impossible Knife of Memory” by Laurie Halse Anderson. That novel was deep and emotional, I highly recommend reading it.

June:

Month I read the most royalty/high status lifestyle books. “The Winner’s Curse”, “The Ring & The Crown”, and “Dark Triumph” all deal with a main character that feel trapped in the tension of the society they live in and end up breaking out the mold some way.

I also enjoyed reading “Dad Is Fat” by Jim Gaffigan. That book had me laughing so hard.

July:

Got the chance to read and review “Queen of the Hill” by Genevieve Jack the newest addition to the Knight Games series. I also started the Shambling Guide series which mixed the paranormal world with the theme of tourism.

August :

Read “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell. Me + that book= mind blown. Hello new favorite author. I never had a book resonate with me so much. I laughed, I cried, and most importantly I fangirled. Thank you Rowell for writing such an incredibly fantastic book. I also enjoyed “To All The Boys I’ve Ever Loved” by Jenny Han. Laura Jean writes love letters, wears unique fashion, and listens to Motown. In other words, she’s kicking it old school.

Finally read “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon! Why did I wait so long to read this epic saga of a book!

September:

Read the second book in the “Bloodlines” series by Richelle Mead. Adrian was already kind of my book boyfriend since I read “Vampire Academy”, but now I’m really falling for him. *swoons* I also read “Dorothy Must Die” by Danielle Paige. Best retelling/spin-off story of a classic I read all year.

October:

I think this was the month I read the least in. Ouch….only two reviews. On the other hand, “Girl Talk” by Christie Young was a refreshing quick read advice book. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard and obnoxiously in public while reading in a long time.

November:

November was also a slow month for reading, not too many books read.

December:

I’m still in the midst of December, but so far I’ve been reading a lot of good books. Keep your eyes peeled for new reviews!

All in all it was a wonderful year of reading!
