Slice of Life: Summer Wrap-Up!

Summer has come to an end! While I’m sad to see the season go, I’m highly anticipating enjoying the Autumn. It was a hot summer and because of the high temps, I don’t think I did as many outdoor activities as I usually would like to, but I still tried my best. Here are some of my highlights from Summer 2023.

Alicia Keys Concert

.Alicia Keys has been one of my favorite singers for the longest time and I’m so happy I finally got to see her live. What an incredible show and setlist. The crowd was vibing, the atmosphere was fun, and the music was so good! She sang a lot of my favorites and newer songs too.

Washington DC Monument Tour

I visited Washington DC for the first time this summer and everything was so new to me. One of the many highlights of the trip was visiting the monuments. They are especially lit up beautifully at night. I loved walking around (although I kept getting attacked by my mosquitoes left and right). Seeing the architecture and learning about the history of the buildings was so fascinating. I still have more buildings on my must-see list, so I’ll plan them for the next trip to DC.

National Museum of African American History

Going to DC also means a trip to the Smithsonian museums. This museum had six floors in total and I felt with so much to look at this museum would take two full days to go through. I was so tired from the day before that I got burned out and only made it through five floors. There was so much to see, and it was also a rollercoaster of emotions while going through the exhibits. This museum has so much important history and is a must-see.

Detroit Book Festival

Detroit Book Fest 2023 was full of bookish fun! Got to check out some local booksellers and author booths. I also picked up some interesting books and reads on my TBR. It got crowded pretty fast so I didn’t stay long, plus it was so hot. Still a good time though and I bought way too many books.

Grand Rapids Lantern Festival

I went to the Grand Rapids Lantern Festival in early June at the John Ball Zoo. What an amazing display of lights! Everything looked so beautiful lit up under the night sky. There was so much to see and the zoo even had specialty-themed foods and items to buy during the event. I would love to see this lantern festival again next year.

Grand Rapids Public Museum

As you know, I love to visit museums of all kinds, especially city museums. I learned many things about he history of Grand Rapids which I wasn’t too familiar with and I enjoyed the wide vaiety of exhibits and galleries they had to offer.

Six The Musical

I got to see Six The Musical in June and I love how the show is a pop-style concert infused with a modern take on history. One of my newest favorite musicals ever!

BTS Festa – 10th Anniversary

I had a great time with my friend Becca at the BTS 10th Anniversary Cupsleeve event in June. What a fun time! I got to meet fellow ARMY and got some freebies too! The Purple You drink was delicious. I also got to visit the Myomee Shop for the first time and they have an amazing selection of K-pop CDs and goods. I can’t wait to go back and shop again!

What were some of your highlights from this summer? Let me know in the comments! And as always you can follow me on my Instagram page to see my bookish adventures, life stuff, and current reads.

    1. Same here. I’ve been trying to visit some museums I haven’t gotten to yet in my area. Hope you get to travel to more museums soon!
