What I’m Listening To…Girl Power Vol.3!

Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In my segment “What I’m Listening To” I share some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist consisting of five tracks.

Since March is Women’s History Month I’d thought I’d continue the celebration by making of playlist of music’s leading ladies. To see my previous list for the past year click here. In the previous years I’ve covered my favorite female duos and retro/classic girl groups, this year I’m focusing on more modern girl groups again.

1) This is Me by Dream

Dream was girl group that had such potential, but unfortunately they fell through (like much of all P.Diddy’s groups). I was a big fan of them growing up and I like how their tracks had a mixture of Pop and R&B sounds. I love the 2000s sound of this track and it’s a nostalgic listen for me.

2) Mr. Mr. by Girls Generation

When you think of girl groups in K-pop, Girls Generation is one that always comes to mind. I’ve been a fan of their music since their debut and I love how their music has changed as they’ve grown in the industry. They have songs with fantastic and memorable choreography and iconic MVs too. It’s hard to pick one song, but I love Mr. Mr. for its dance beats and EDM sound.

3) Evolution of Girl Groups by Citizen Queen

Citizen Queen is a girl group I disovered making waves on Youtube with amazing acapella ccovers such as this meloedy about. They’re one of the more recent acapella groups I’ve found and I like how they put their own spin on covers. They are so talented and have started to release their own original music. I can’t wait to see more from this group.

4) Underappreciated – Cherish

Cherish is an American R&B, soul, and hip hop duo consisting of twins Felisha and Fallon King. The group originally included their older sisters Farrah and Neosha King but both have since departed the group. The thing that stood out to me about Cherish was their harmonies and strong vocals. Their ballads especially showed off their music strengths and they were a group I had on repeat growing up (and still to this day).

5) Little More by FAKY

FAKY, I feel in my own opinion is a J-Pop girl group that deserves more recognition in the music scene. The group was formed as “a girl group with international appeal” so their music has more of a Western sound. They have multinational members and they are very skilled dancers and singers. So many tracks to choose from, but I picked Little More since it’s one of their more recent songs. It’s so catchy and the choreography is so cool1!

I hope you enjoyed this playlist! Who are your favorite girl groups and which songs do you like the most? Comment below!

  1. That Evolution of Girl Groups mashup was a lot of fun! I’m curious to see what new artists emerge from this year’s SXSW. Maybe even more people were actually able to attend and perform, what with their having to do it virtually this year.

  2. Enjoyed the post. Don’t really listen to girl groups. A female artist I’m getting more into is Tiera (pop country).
