Reading Recommendations: Books in Space

In the words of Star Trek,”To boldly go where no man has gone before!” I love to read books that explore stories of galaxies far away, alien sagas, or what life is life among the planets. Today I’m compiling some book recommendations of stories set in space! Enjoy these picks!

Synopsis: Set against the backdrop of intergalactic politics and war, Dawn Among the Stars follows the stories of three Humans as they struggle to understand the universe on a cosmic scale. Can these three work with the Shielders to save Earth or will they lose the only home they’ve ever known?

Dawn Among The Stars is a fast-paced Sci-fi novel that had me hooked from the first page. The plot has a post-apocalyptic/dystopian vibe as Kayin, the main character, lives in a world where aliens and humans somewhat co-exist on the same planet. The different viewpoints of the survivors added to the intensity of the story. Huewegen has great attention to detail adding suspense and an overall eeriness to the story. (See Review Here)

Synopsis: Getting shipped off to the Hanover School for Expecting Teen Mothers was not how Elvie imagined spending her junior year, but she can go with the flow. That is, until a team of hot commandos hijacks the ship–and one of them turns out to be Cole. So fine, finding a way off this ship is priority number one, but first Elvie has to figure out how Cole ended up as a commando, work together with her arch-nemesis, and figure out if she even wants to be a mother–assuming they get back to Earth in one piece.

Mothership is set mostly in outer space, but some parts of the book do take place on earth. The story is set in the year 2074 and is about pregnant teen, Elvie Nara, who is shipped off to Hanover School for Expecting Teen Mothers in space. This book was so much fun to read because it was so non-realistic and out there! The story is wacky, comedic, and action-packed from start to finish!

Synopsis: Daisy Kirkwood has only just escaped her small-town life and run away to New York City, the land of last-minute secret gigs at famous musical venues, when she’s kidnapped by aliens. Griffin and Dev are supermassively sexy aliens from a politically and environmentally troubled planet who arrive on Earth with very little knowledge about human ways other than what they learned from a wayward E! News signal. Their mission is to pretend to be the most influential people on the planet—English pop stars, of course!—and gain the help of a powerful secret society.

This story is humorous and very goofy. It’s so “out of this world” and it’s not meant to be taken too seriously, which is why I liked the story so much. Though Griffin and Daisy butt heads at first, the sparks fly between the two once they realize each other’s deep passion for music and I like how their relationship transitions from friendship to love. It was fun to see Griffin and Dev geek out about Earth’s legendary singers. (See Review Here)

Synopsis: Delaney’s entire world is thrown into chaos after she is mistaken for Lissa Olena, an alien princess hiding out on Earth in order to escape an arranged marriage. Kidnapped by the princess’s head bodyguard, Ruckus, and imprisoned in an alien palace, Delaney is forced to impersonate the princess until Olena can be found. If she fails, it will lead to an alien war and the eventual enslavement of the entire human race.

This book is a strong start to the trilogy! Readers get pulled into Delaney’s world as she experiences a otherworldly place different from everything she’s ever known. The novel is suspenseful since she’s constantly under disguise while also trying to figure out a way back home. Add in some monarchy drama, romance, and many action-packed scenes and you’ve got yourself a solid story.

Synopsis: Being a teenager is tough, especially when you have to pretend to be something you’re not, and you’re in love with someone you shouldn’t. 115 years ago, a small planet called Arcadia was invaded by a vicious alien race and nearly destroyed. A group of Arcadian explorers discovered a Prophecy that claimed their salvation lay in the hands of two children from Earth. To ensure their safety, the Arcadian Council sent their most gifted youngsters to Earth to act as protectors. Samantha is one of them.To succeed in her mission she must learn to control her Arcadian powers and keep her true identity from her best friend, and the girl she swore to protect, Alexia.

Prophecy of Arcadia is a fun and action packed read! Our main protagonist, is a “normal” teenage girl who unknowingly holds the key to saving Arcadia, a planet that lies far away. Her “cousins” are her guardians and protectors. All of the these characters try to live and enjoy a regular life filled with school, romance, and parties while danger lies on the front. Synopsis: Earth is a distant memory. Habitable extrasolar planets are still out of reach. For generations, humanity has been clinging to survival by establishing colonies within enormous vacuum-breathing space beasts and mining their resources to the point of depletion.Rash, dreamy, and unconventional, Seske Kaleigh should be preparing for her future role as clan leader, but her people have just culled their latest beast, and she’s eager to find the cause of the violent tremors plaguing their new home. Defying social barriers, Seske teams up with her best friend, a beast worker, and ventures into restricted areas for answers to end the mounting fear and rumors.

There are so many interesting concepts in this novel. Its fresh, unique and everything I want in a Sci-Fi novel. One of the aspects I enjoyed is how the fantasy elements have a somewhat magical quality to them. It’s slow paced with immersive world building process. It leaves the reader shrouded in mystery and you have to put the pieces of the story together. (See Review Here)
