What Lies Beneath

It had been a year since Dr Norman Spencer betrayed his beautiful wife Claire. However, with Claire oblivious to the truth, Norman’s life and marriage seem so perfect that when Claire tells him of hearing mysterious voices and seeing a young woman’s image in their home, he dismisses her terror as delusion. Claire moves closer to the truth, and it becomes clear that this apparition will not be dismissed, and has come back for Dr Spencer and his beautiful wife.

Shout out to Daniel from The Cobwebs Channel for recommending this thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end! This supernatural horror film does a great job of unraveling a mystery that has some surprising twists and ghostly elements that only add to its overall tense atmosphere. I loved the beautiful setting of this film and how an idyllic house can slowly turn into a prison rather a place of refuge. Ford and Pfeiffer are solid leads of this film as their role as a couple with a crumbling marriage puts them at odds. Highly recommended!

Silk

In Taipei, a scientist traps a child’s ghost to study its lingering energy; a lip-reading detective uncovers the boy’s tragic murder, as obsession drives the research into madness.

Since I have been big on collecting physical media for the last couple of years, my collection has grown a lot. In an effort to sort through the items I really want to keep I’ve been watching DVDs I forgot I own. This movie surprised in the best way as I don’t think I’ve seen a horror/thriller film use biology with ghosts in this way. It did remind me a big of 13 Ghosts (one of my favorites) in some of the mechanisms they use to catch this host. It’s got a great eerie atmosphere that is consistent without and mystery that shocks you as the pieces are put together. I also appreciated it’s overall theming around how it tackles grief and the pain of letting go.

Cooties

Elementary-school teachers (Elijah Wood, Alison Pill, Rainn Wilson) come under attack from children who have been turned into vicious monsters by contaminated chicken nuggets.

I love movies that don’t take itself too seriously and that’s exactly what Cooties aims to be a film. With a premise about contaminated chicken nuggets that cause a zombie like outbreak, you know that you’re in for a wacky thrill ride. With it’s star studded cast, I’m surprised I didn’t hear about this film earlier even though it is a straight to DVD style release. No matter how unserious the situation (in which the fourth wall is broken numerous times) that cast does a great job of suspending your belief of the events that happen. The film is action packed, a tad gory too, but I like that it keeps it’s momentum till the very end.

A Southern Haunting

After receiving 40 acres, a former slave family battles man and myth to uncover the truth that lurks behind their land.

Set in the Reconstruction Era after the Civil War this film focuses on Special Field Orders No. 15 which set aside 400,000 abandoned coastal acres in South Carolina and Georgia, dividing them into 40-acre plots for freed families. The film stars Imani Hakim from the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, so it was nice to see her acting in a more dramatic role with a character that has a lot layers. The horror is not so much some of the jump scares (of the ghosts) in this movie but the reality this family faces in their new home still living under a society that has not changed much since the war. The downfall of this movie is some the editing needs work, as well as acting, but I feel like it’s worth watching. . At its heart it’s a story of a family trying to live and trying to adapt to a new world.

Music

You Give Me Something by James Morrison

Funny story about this song and it’s album. I fell in love with it during its promo run back in 2026. So much so I begged to go to FYE so I could buy this whole album instantly (and his debut album was great!). This is a beautiful song to hear acoustically hearing it give a fresh take with an orchestra backing was amazing!

Keep The Fire Burning by Gwen McCrae

I love Disco and recently discovered this song on SiriusXm and fell in love. It’s such a funky dance track that makes me move along to the music. It’s a song that will instantly lift your spirits!

YouTube

Bishop Mortimer

I love finding new vloggers to watch and I love how creative Bishop is. As a crafter myself, it’s cool to see the projects he comes up with and it inspires my to level up my own DIYs. His videos are a great relaxing watch after a long day of work.

Millionaire Divas That Constantly Have To Tour

With Ticketmaster and tours in general being a top topic lately (because of these insane ticket prices), I found this video series really interesting. She breaks down each singers history in a comprehensive way and looks at how their tours have evolved over their career. The bigger question becomes do they love to tour or are they forced to perform and never retire. A engrossing look at the entertainment industry for sure.
