My Favorite Things: October

My Favorite Things” is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. Hope you enjoy these personal picks!

TV

Dickensian

Synopsis: In this 20-part series, characters from many Charles Dickens novels together in one Victorian London neighbourhood, as Inspector Bucket investigates the murder of Ebenezer Scrooge’s partner Jacob Marley.

I’m only a quarter way into this show, but so far I love it! I’m really into period dramas and this one peaked my interest. Though I’ve never read any Dickens books, I am familiar with a lot of the stories. It’s interesting to see all of the in the same “universe” as there’s a mystery going on. I curious to see how it ends!

Boruto: The Next Generations

Synopsis: The life of the shinobi is beginning to change. Boruto Uzumaki, son of Seventh Hokage Naruto Uzumaki, has enrolled in the Ninja Academy to learn the ways of the ninja. Now, as a series of mysterious events unfolds, Boruto’s story is about to begin!

In my recent anime viewing, I’ve been catching up with Boruto and revisiting all my favorite characters from the Naruto series. It makes me nostalgic to see my favorite characters all grown up. This series started off slow for me, but we’re finally getting into the juicy parts of the story as the Chunin exams are coming up.

American Horror Story: 1984

Synopsis: In 1984, Brooke Thompson is attacked by the Night Stalker and decides to leave town for the summer to work as a counselor at Camp Redwood with her new friends from a dance aerobics class. The counselors learn from that Camp Redwood was the site of a massacre in 1970 committed by the groundskeeper, Benjamin Richter, referred to as Mr. Jingles.

This most current season of AHS is playing on the tropes of Friday the 13th with it’s setting. It’s also got a great soundtrack with some classic 80’s hits that I love. Currently, I’m at the halfway point of the season and I really enjoy this one compared the last couple of seasons. It uses some campy horror tropes, is action-packed, suspenseful, and has lots of twists I didn’t see coming!

Movies

Addams Family

Synopsis: Members of the mysterious and spooky Addams family — Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester and Grandma — are readily preparing for a visit from their even creepier relatives. But trouble soon arises when shady TV personality Margaux Needler realizes that the Addams’ eerie hilltop mansion is standing in the way of her dream to sell all the houses in the neighborhood.

This movie was so much fun to watch and I love that they re-booted this beloved classic for a new generation. It kept every aspect of The Addams Family that I know and love, while also adding in some new features and characters too. Most of all it had some good commentary on today’s society and sent a positive message about always staying true to yourself.

The Ritual

Synopsis: Reuniting after the tragic death of their friend, four college pals set out to hike through the Scandinavian wilderness. A wrong turn leads them into the mysterious forests of Norse legend, where an ancient evil exists and stalks them at every turn.

This movie starts out pretty grim from the very beginning, but horror aspects slowly creep into the story until the end where all the action happens. You know something bad will happen, but the fear of the unknown is what keeps you on the edge of my seat. It was a immersive viewing experience and it definitely sent chills down my spine. This is a good movie pick for Halloween!

Music

Puzzle Moon by GWSN

This is such a catchy upbeat, and electronic dance track. I’m not too familiar with this group, but I do want listen to more of their songs now. The choreography formations are so cool and the imagery of the outfits and MV cinematography gives off a Sailor Moon vibe.

Ah Dis, Ah Bonjour! by Avalon Jazz Band

Avalon Jazz Band is one of my favorite jazz groups that cover French Jazz songs and Jazz Classics (they have original tracks as well). This song is jovial and make you want to jive along with the music.

Lost in Japan by Citizen Queen

I’ve been following Citizen Queen’s music since they did a “Evolution of Girl Groups” video (which I recommend watching). This is such a good acapella cover of one of my favorite songs! The harmonization is excellent and they put a fresh spin on the original track.

Youtube

The Tim Tracker

Their light-hearted vlog offers a closer look at the ins and outs of many popular Florida vacation destinations like Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, Sea World, and more. They’ve also journeyed to theme parks and fun destinations across the country, and around the globe.

As a fellow Disney nerd, I love watching Disney vlogs and The Tim Tracker has become one of my favorite vloggers over the years. Tim & Jen’s videos are fun to watch and they give out very helpful tips about traveling to Disney parks among others in the Orlando area. I always learn something new when I watch their videos!

Podcasts

Dramas With a Side of Kimchi

Synopsis: To help our fellow Asian Drama fans, near & far we provide a safe place to talk, squee & otherwise act like teenagers in the throes Celebrity Crushes!

This is a fun podcasts about dissecting and reviewing Asian dramas and it’s so much fun! Each episode covers a new show airing or a different topics and the hosts discuss and debates about their favorites. It’s as equally enjoyable as the blog, and the hosts are entertaining.

Tales

Synopsis: You think you know the story…But do you really? Every other Saturday, Tales presents ancient fairy tales the way they were originally told: orally, and unadulterated.

I love classic fairy tales and storytelling podcasts! I saw this podcast being recommended on Buzzfeed and I’m glad I gave it a listen! The host has such a good narration voice and truly brings each story to life. I also enjoy that the podcast gives the historical context about the story’s background.
