My Favorite Things: March Edition

My Favorite Things” is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. Hope you enjoy these personal picks!

Movies

Made In America

Synopsis: Lighthearted tale about the daughter of a black career woman who discovers that she is the product of artificial insemination, and that her natural father is a white, used-car salesman. Her mother is even more disturbed at her discovery, and doesn’t want anything to do with him. However, the girl still wants a father, and he quite likes the idea of having a daughter.

Whoopi Goldberg is one of my favorite actresses and when I saw this comedy while scrolling through Netflix on a sick day and decided to watch. It was silly, pure fun, full of crazy antics, and had a little romance thrown in there. It was also cool to see such a star-studded cast; Ted Danson, Nia Long, and Will Smith! If you’re looking for a feel-good laugh out loud movie, I recommend this!

Dating the Gangster

Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Athena Dizon unwittingly plays a trick on resident heartthrob and bad boy Kenji de los Reyes. All of a sudden, she finds herself pretending to be his girlfriend to make an ex jealous; however, she falls in love with him.

What a cute rom com! I liked the sweet romance and the plot of fake dating/two opposites attract. I liked how the film flashed bath and forth from the past and present as we learn about Athena and Kenji’s love story. It was heartfelt, funny, and sweet. I liked how the theme of the movie was cherishing your first love.

Beauty

Cucumber Melon Body Cream

One of my favorites from Bath & Body Works since I was teenager. It’s cool, refreshing, and the scent has a hint of sweetness that reminds me of Summertime/Spring.

This Little Light of Mine Bath Bomb

This bath bomb is not only gorgeous with shimmering glitter and blue hue, but it’s also lots of fun! It’s got a mixture of natural Olive Oil and Cedarwood scents that make it calming. The best part? There’s a surprise glow light within the bath bomb!

Music

Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi

I’ve been hooked on the funky sounds of City Pop (stay tuned for a future music playlist with this theme) and I love its retro style and feel! I stumbled upon Plastic Love on Youtube like many others and I love its mellow melody and clear vocals.

Last Night a DJ Saved My Life by Indeep

This a song I grew up on thanks to my parents playing old school 80s jams around the house! It’s got a great bass line and a melody you can dance along to.

Holy by Jamila Woods

This is one of my favorite tracks to listen to while I do freelance/work on the blog. It’s calming and I love the lyrics about loving yourself and taking care of yourself physically, spiritually, and mentally.

Webtoons

True Beauty

Synopsis:After binge-watching beauty videos on YouTube, a shy, comic book fan masters the art of make-up, then sees her social standing skyrocket as she becomes her school’s prettiest pretty girl literally overnight. But will her elite status be short lived? How long can she keep her “real self” a secret? And what about that cute boy she likes? Could you imagine if he found out the truth?

This is one of the few webtoons I’ve been binge reading as of lately. The story sounds very similar to other things I’ve read before, but when I read it it’s different. The characters are very in-depth and I like how even though the main characters has a passion for makeup, she’s on a journey to discover her inner beauty.

Ghost Wife

Synopsis: He’s a dark, uber-powerful god-level demon…who’s also really helpful around the house. Welcome to the unique world of Ghost Wife, where an average high school girl can go to sleep with normal teenage problems, only to wake up and find herself married to an over-protective demon with a creepy smile and an appetite for live cats.

Definitely an interesting comic, its half romance and half horror. The art style is interesting and the illustrations of the creepy ghosts are so creepy! The story is suspenseful and you never know when a new opponent will come between Liz and Damon.
