My Favorite Things: July Edition

My Favorite Things” is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. Hope you enjoy these personal picks!

TV

Cells At Work

Synopsis: This is a story about you. A tale about the inside of your body… According to a new study, the human body consists of approximately 37 trillion cells. These cells are hard at work every day within a world that is your body. From the oxygen carrying Red Blood Cells to the bacteria fighting White Blood Cells, Get to know the unsung heroes and the drama that unfolds inside of you!

I’ve been hearing a lot about this anime/manga since it was released in the US last year. As the synopsis says, its an anime about what goes on inside the human body. The show is educational while also being lots of fun! It’s humorous and the “characters” such as the Red and White Blood Cells have a lot of personality. I’m enjoying this show so much!

Movies

Toy Story 4

Synopsis: Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody’s slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo discuss the old days, they soon start to realize that they’re worlds apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy.

The Toy Story films hold a lot of nostalgia for me as I grew up with them. I was perfectly fine with how the third installment ended, but I was welcoming to the fourth film even though I didn’t feel like it needed to be made. This film like the others is one big emotional roller coaster ride. And as always I was in tears by the end of movie. These films have so much hear, humor, important messages about growing up. If you love the Toy Story films, go check and check this out.

Music

Room Shaker by Ailee

I’m so glad to see Ailee is back with new music as an independent artist! She has been a long time favorite in K-pop for me and I loved how this title track is a departure from her usual sound. It’s equal parts EDM and Hip-Hop making it a great dance track. Such a power anthem!

Flamingo by Kenshi Yonezu

I’ve been listening to J-Pop more and I really like Kenshi’s music. Flamingo is pop song that has a energetic melody. I like how the lyrics about someone that stands out from the crowd mirroring the presence of a flamingo.

Black Butterfly by Deniece Williams

I’ve been listening to Deniece since I was kid (my parents always played her “best” album) and this is one my favorite songs. It’s emotional, motivational, and I like how the lyrics talk about Black History.

Podcasts

History in a Hurry

Synopsis: A history podcast for people who don’t necessarily like history. Want to learn a little bit about Ancient Rome or the Black Death but don’t want to spend hours doing it? Jack and Lauren present a topic in history quick enough for your commute. Now sit back, relax, and learn something.

If you’re looking for educational podcasts that are under an hour, give this a try! I’m a history fanatic and I like how engrossing, but comprehensive each episode is. The compact one large piece of history into a short episodes and the listener is able to learn a lot. The information doesn’t seem overwhelming and they also provide great resources for further reading on the subject.

Youtube

*I thought I’d add a new category with this segment! I’ll be sharing some of my favorite Youtubers/videos that I watched*

Miss Mina

Mina’s travel videos are so entertaining to watch because she has such a energetic spirit. She takes her viewers throughout Korea (and other countries) showcasing places to visit, food, and the overall culture. I’ve been watching her vlogs for a long time and I like the variety of content she creates.

Amerie

I’ve always known Amerie as a singer, but I found her vlog channel years ago and I like how she talks about diverse books, music, writing, lifestyle tips, beauty how-to’s, and more. She has such a down-to-earth personality and on her channel you’ll always find new books to add to your TBR.

  1. I likd your July edition. I’m massive fan of tv, movies and anime. I’ve only started keeping up to date with one punch man. I like animes that have comedy in. The doll in Toy story 4 had a villainous and surprisingly a kind side. The ending was amazing. Nice post 😄

    1. I agree about Toy Story 4. I’ve tried to get into the anime “One Punch Man”, but it’s just not for me. But I do like comedic anime shows.
