My Favorite Things 2018: Movies

Today, I’m talking about my favorite movies that I watched in 2018. I didn’t even get a chance to see half of the movies that were released in the theaters, but I still enjoyed the movies I did. I actually spent most of the year catching up on movies released in prior years and films on my “movie bucket list”. Here is a compilation of films that made the top of my favorites list.

A Wrinkle in Time

This movie was amazing! I never read the original novel as a kid, but if I did and saw this movie as an adult, I would be blown away. I was mesmerized by the cinematography the entire movie and couldn’t keep my eyes from being glued to the scene. Most of all I loved the positive message about family, but also believing in yourself and your dreams.

Incredibles 2

I and many others have waited for this sequel for so long and it delivered! It brought all the elements of the first film that I loved and I actually enjoyed the sequel more. All the favorites and some new characters come back in a wonderfully animated action packed film. Jack Jack is definitely the star of this movie and of the family.

Crazy Rich Asians

It’s one of the best feel-good romantic comedies I’ve seen in a long time and I appreciated that it was a mix of comedy, drama, and a heavy focus on culture and family. Constance Wu is such a great lead in this film and I love how her character is fierce and funny. I hope this film brings more diverse rom-com to the big screen.

The Greatest Showman

I’ve heard such glowing reviews of it. This movie did not disappoint! I loved how it was a period musical, but the music was contemporary (still have the soundtrack on repeat). They had a lot of my favorite actors/actresses and even some new talent that really impressed me. I enjoyed the message of pursuing your dreams and how everyone comes together as one to have their time to shine, despite how society shuns them. I heard they are making this movie into musical, so I’d love to see it on Broadway.

Coco

Pixar has done it again! Another beautiful film with a strong narrative that’s full of heart and very lovable characters. I love the vivid colors used and the amazing animation pulls the viewer into Miguel’s story. I enjoyed how the explored the culture of Dia De Los Muertos and how the film pays tribute to Mexican culture. This movie is going in my top 10 Pixar films.

To All The Boys I’ve Love Before

I thought it was a solid adaptation of the book even with my high standards (it’s one of my favorite YA trilogies) and I plan on reading it again soon! I think Lana Condor and Noah Centineo were great choices to play Laura Jean and Peter, they have such good on-screen chemistry with each other. I liked how the film captured the vintage stuff Laura Jean enjoys, the tight bond of the Song sisters, and the cute town the story is set in.

Black Panther

The OST, the amazing actor/actresses, cinematography, and story were all great! I loved every second of this film and was completely immersed in the world of Wakanda from beginning to end. The costumes were so beautiful and I love how they celebrated and represented so many African cultures. The comedy had me laughing, the action had me in awe, and I like how there was commentary on race relations among other topics.

  1. Well, admittedly I didn’t see that many movies in 2018 or in any year, but a bunch of your faves were my faves too. A Wrinkle in Time was gorgeous and I adore the actress who played Meg; and Incredibles 2 somehow managed to make me love it in spite of its being a sequel — so many cool action sequences!

    1. I hope the actress who played Meg does more future work, she’s such a good actress! And I’m always weary of sequel, but Incredibles 2 was worth the long wait.

    1. I’m looking forward to Aladdin, since that’s my favorite Disney movie. But I also can’t wait for a lot of the sequels like Lego Movie 2 to be released. I need to plan my movie watching schedule for 2019, lol. 🙂
