Hello readers! I love listening to podcasts at work, home, and while on-the-go. I talked about some of the podcasts that I listen to in the past, but today I thought I would share some of my favorite non-bookish podcasts with you. I hope you enjoy these picks!

Synopsis: With an uncanny knack for taking serious topics (racism, rape culture, sexism, police brutality, etc.) and with humor, making them relatable and interesting, she combines intellectual wit, irreverent silliness and a pop culture obsession to create her unique style of smart funny content for the stage and screens.

Small Doses is a light-hearted podcast that tackles a variety of topics such as race, books, feminism, pop culture, and more. Even though the topics can be on the heavy side, Seales humor and wit makes it easy to listen to. It’s funny while also digging deep to discuss the roots/problems within each topics. I like how smart, fun, and thought-provoking this podcast is!

Synopsis: The ultimate fans debate the pros and cons of everything Disney.

This podcast is pretty self-explanatory by its synopsis alone. It follows two long time friends who chat about all-things Disney. It’s a laid-back podcast and I love the camaraderie between the hosts and their open conversations. They give honest opinions about Disney, talk about what’s new in the parks, and even have some trivia episodes. Their podcast puts a smile on my face.

Synopsis: Young, Gifted and Abroad is an interview podcast that launched on Juneteenth, 2018. Each episode features a person of color who has studied abroad or had similar international experiences as a high school, undergraduate, or graduate student. No matter the type or duration of experience,  the goal is for these stories to inspire current PoC students (and non-students alike) to take advantage of opportunities to see more of the world.

This was a podcast started up from a college friend who I studied with in my Japanese language classes. As a person who loves to travel I find it fascinating to hear the interviews between Danielle and guests about their travel experiences. I always learn something new, and with every episode I’m continually adding to my travel wish list of places I’d like to go. You can also check out the interview I did with Danielle by clicking here.

Synopsis: SojuTalk Kpop Podcast is Your Weekly Shot of Kpop. Listen to the SojuTalk Crew as we cover fuego releases, spicy breaking news, and give our hottest takes on the world of Kpop!

As an avid K-Pop fan I enjoy this podcast a lot. It’s entertaining to listen to Doug, Warren, and Anita chat about K-Pop. Since I don’t keep up with new music releases all of the time due to my busy schedule, this podcast helps me find out what’s current. I like that the also share K-Pop throwback songs and chart/show winner stats. It’s informative and fun!

Synopsis: Lore is a podcast about non-fiction scary stories. Each episode examines historical events that show the dark side of human nature and is presented in a style that’s been compared to a campfire experience.

I love scary movies, but it’s something about reading horror novels or audio books that really gets too me. Luckily, Lore, is a happy medium for me. Aaron, is such a great host and his voice is perfect for storytelling. There’s tales of mystery and the unexplained that sends chills down your spines. If you like spooky stories, this one is must listen to.

Synopsis: “We don’t know.” answers too many questions. But in this podcast, we don’t take “we don’t know” for an answer. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Unexplained Mysteries investigates the greatest mysteries of history and life on earth, because the answer “we don’t know” is always the scariest.

I loved the original show that was on Cable TV back in the day, plus any shows/podcasts about mysteries. This is so interesting because of the wide range of topics that they cover in each episode. From unsolved crimes to small historical events in history that I was unaware of, I learn something new every time. This is a podcast for mystery-lovers!

  1. Some interesting selections. Young, Gifted and Abroad sounds really good since getting other perspectives on Japan and travelling is important. I also watched Unexplained Mysteries. I didn’t know there was a podcast for that, haha.

I listen to really different things like The Majority Report (politics from a left perspective) and H.P. Podcraft (H.P. Lovecraft and other weird fiction stories analysed) and Retronauts (video games).

    1. The Unexplained Mysteries is a bit different from the show, but it’s still good. I’ll have to check out the podcasts you mentioned! I’ve never heard of them before. I’m intrigued.
