Favorite Baking Shows!

This time around for another roundup of my favorites I decided to talk about baking shows. Baking shows are such a source of comfort to me. I love seeing how food connects people together. Because I have a long list, I will most likely be sharing more food show recommendations.

The Cupcake Guys

Former NFL teammates Michael Griffin and Brian Orakpo are joined by their longtime friend, Bryan Hynson, in opening a franchise of Gigi’s Cupcakes in Austin, Texas.

I love shows about food and especially those that focus on baking. I’m not too familiar with NFL players but it was cool to see Michael, Brian, and Bryan team up to expand their business. Their cupcakes look amazing and too good to eat. As with most businesses, the journey is full of ups and downs and this series gives a glimpse of a business trying to bounce back from Covid. It’s a short series that is easily binge-able and very enjoyable to watch.

Is it Cake?

Mikey Day hosts a baking contest during which skilled cake artists create mouthwatering replicas of handbags, sewing machines and other objects.

A very simple baking competition with a unique twist. I have seen multiple cakes that look like everyday items on social media and watching these bakers trying to recreate these items is fascinating. The cake recipes are mouthwatering, and the skills are out of this world. Even after watching multiple episodes, it gets even harder to tell which items are actually cake.

Great American Baking Show

Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry host a baking contest in the iconic tent, with six celebrity bakers who bake up a storm to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith and win the coveted cake stand and Star Baker crown.

If you’ve been following this blog for a while now, you know how much I love cooking shows. This is an American version of the Great British Bake-Off which feature celebrities. It’s very relaxing and what made it entertaining to watch is seeing the celebrities getting passionate about baking even though they all have different levels of baking skills. It was fun to watch and made me laugh out loud a lot.

Nadiya Bakes

Nadiya Hussain rose to fame after winning the sixth series of BBC’s `The Great British Bake Off’ in 2015, and with `Nadiya Bakes’, she returns to BBC2 to share her love of baking with some of her favourite recipes. She travels around the United Kingdom to visit extraordinary bakeries, and responds to emergency call-outs to visit members of the public who are organising a big celebration that requires a tasty bake for a hungry crowd. From everyday treats to indulgent desserts, these are guaranteed to bring a little joy to life.

I love cooking shows, especially anything involving baked goods. I loved watching Nadiya’s other show Time to Eat, and now I’m making my way through episodes of Nadiya Bakes. She has a charming and down-to-earth personality that invites viewers into her cooking space and gets them interested in whatever she’s creating. She also puts some unique spin on traditional recipes that I love. Maybe I will get inspired and try a recipe out.

Cake Wars

A group of bakers compete to see whose cake is good enough to be featured at a special event. The bakers are also vying for the chance to win a cash prize.

There are multiple seasons of this show which means it’s binge-worthy. It’s a comfort watch plus I can have it in the background while I’m working (although it just makes me hungry). I love seeing the competitiveness of all the baking teams on this show and how they stretch their creative limits. I wish I could bake intricate cakes such as these chefs!
