Cozy Mystery Picks To Add To Your Spring Watchlist

I love a good mystery show, especially ones involving super-sleuthing detectives. I’ve seen so many over the years, but here are some picks of shows that I’ve enjoyed and recommend for any avid cozy mystery reader. To see even more recommendations, click here.

The Killer’s Shopping List

One day, a dead body is found at an apartment near the supermarket. Finding this murder odd, Dae-sung, his mother, and his girlfriend Ah-hee gather around to find the real murderer, starting by looking through the receipts of the market.

This drama feels like a cozy mystery with its blend of comedy and solving a crime. This series is short but it’s great, it makes you laugh and involves you in the suspense of the plot at the same time. While I do think it could have been written more as a movie than a series, I would recommend it if you like something lighthearted and fun. I think the cast of characters is entertaining to watch and the plot is not too heavy making it a show for easy viewing.

In For a Murder

A stay-at-home mother and avid reader of crime stories discovers the deepest secrets of a small town’s residents while investigating a woman’s murder.

This movie may be formulaic but it gives me all the cozy mysteries vibes as the main character is a avid reader of mystery novels that becomes an amateur sleuth. It’s comedic, suspenseful, and all the characters have great personalities. I enjoyed the main heroine’s growth and how she goes on a personal journey to finally liberate herself! I felt this movie is a tale that tugs at your heart strings and it has special charm!

Miss Truth

The story follows a forensic examiner Ran Yan, as she investigates the truth around her mother’s suicide and solves murder cases one at a time. Ran Yan is an eighteen-year-old destitute noblewoman who grew up learning about autopsies and finding clues through corpses. She encounters a judicial official and an assassin by chance and finds true love through the course of searching for the truth.

I really like Chinese historical dramas and this one caught my eye particularly because the main character is a forensic examiner. She’s skillful, intelligent, and determined to solve her mother’s untimely passing as well as find justice for the victims through each autopsy. The drama teeters between romance and suspense as the mysteries entangle with an overarching plot of politics, betrayals, and hidden secrets. Each episode I watched left me wanting more. The second half to be honest, falls apart a bit but as a whole this drama is worth the watch if you like historical/period shows!

To Catch a Thief

Notorious cat burglar John Robie has long since retired to tend vineyards on the French Riviera. When a series of robberies is committed in his style, John must clear his name. Armed with a list of people who own the most expensive jewels currently in the area, John begins following the first owner, young Francie. When her jewels are stolen, Francie suspects John, destroying their tentative romance. John goes on the lam to catch the thief and clear his own name.

I enjoy Hitchcock films so I decided to watch To Catch a Thief and was pleasantly surprised by the film. In my eyes it doesn’t beat Rear Window which also starred Grace Kelly, but its still an engaging film to watch from beginning to end. The move is takes a light and humorous path and gives a cat-and-mouse feeling as John is trying to track down the true thief. There are beautiful views of the French Rivera and scenery throughout the film making for a enjoyable cinematic experience.

Murder Mystery

A New York cop and his wife go on a European vacation to reinvigorate the spark in their marriage. A chance encounter leads to them being framed for the murder of an elderly billionaire.

For anyone who enjoys comedy and stories about amateur sleuths this movie is for you. It’s goofy, and whimsical, and takes viewers through idyllic locations while trying to solve a crime. I love how this movie doesn’t take itself seriously and pokes fun at all the common tropes we find in murder mystery media. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston make a fun dynamic duo as a couple in this film and the rest of the cast ensemble makes this movie so fun to watch.
