Cozy Holiday-Watching Recommendations

It’s that Holly Jolly time of year and that means Christmas-themed media. Along with my other holiday-themed posts I’m sharing throughout the month of December, today I’m talking about some cozy watching recommendations. Here are some picks that I’ve enjoyed and recommend to you.

A Sugar & Spice Holiday

Suzie, a rising young architect, returns to her small hometown in Maine for Christmas. When she gets there, she is pushed to follow her grandmother’s footsteps and enter the local gingerbread house competition.

When it’s the holiday season I love to watch Christmas Romance movies. I love all things baking related so I was immediately drawn to A Sugar & Spice Christmas. This movie was so sweet and wholesome! I love the gingerbread concoctions they made in this film and all of the recipes were mouthwatering. The romance aspect where the two leads reconnect years after high school was cute and I love Suzie’s interactions with her family. This is a film filled with heart and family themes.

Nailed It! Holiday

Home bakers who have a poor track record in the kitchen seek redemption — and cash — on this series. In each episode, three contestants try their hand at re-creating edible masterpieces. The projects don’t always turn out great, but whichever amateur baker comes closest to a successful dessert by the end of the episode takes home the $10,000 prize.

I love watching any shows that have to do with baking and Nailed It, is one of my favorites because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Instead of taking seasoned bakers, every contestant is a regular person who just loves to cook for fun. It’s entertaining to watch and see what crazy difficult desserts they’ll have to recreate and who will win the challenge. Most of all, the bakers don’t take themselves too seriously and just have fun with it. The judges make the show entertaining too. The holiday version of Nailed It will have you craving all of the festive sweet treats.

Merry Happy Whatever

A strong-willed father navigates the stress of the holiday season when his daughter brings her new boyfriend home for Christmas.

This holiday sitcom navigates a family’s chaotic Christmas through multiple perspectives. It’s whimsical, fun, and lighthearted. It does tackle topics of grief, sexuality, and divorce, among other discussions but it keeps an upbeat tone throughout the entire show. I enjoyed that this show was simple, yet festive. It’s a sitcom that isn’t too plot-heavy and can be binged in a day (30-minute episodes). It shows that holidays may drive us crazy, but being around friends, family, and loved ones can sometimes make it a little easier.

The Holiday Calendar

A photographer inherits an antique Advent calendar that seems to predict her future — including a budding romance.

A cute romance Christmas movie with a friends-to-lovers trope that is very heartwarming! The main character is not only struggling with romance but is looking for guidance on what to do in her future. She’s stuck at a job she doesn’t want and has big dreams of having her own photography studio. This movie had a homey feeling to it, plus I like how the advent calendar was used for the plot. A nice feel-good movie!

4 Reasons Why I Hate Christmas

A web-drama about 4 young adults who hate Christmas who meet by chance and spend the month of December together. They unexpectedly become a part of each others lives as Christmas nears.

What I love about Playlist Global’s web dramas is how they create a drama universe for all of the characters featured in their shows. I saw some familiar faces from other dramas I had watched and this aspect keeps me connected to the dramas. This show is cozy, festive, and emotional. I felt while there is no definite HEA at the end of the story, it still doesn’t end on a sour note. The plot felt realistic and I like how it navigated the complicated emotions that can sometimes surround the holiday season. Each character grows in their own special way. A recommended watch for K-Drama fans!

The Muppets Christmas Carol

The Muppets perform the classic Dickens holiday tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge. Other Muppets — Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear and Sam the Eagle — weave in and out of the story, while Scrooge receives visits from spirits of three Christmases — past, present and future. They show him the error of his self-serving ways, but the miserable old man seems to be past any hope of redemption and happiness.

Nothing says Christmas more than The Muppets! There are so many versions of Dickens’s story in movie form, but this version is in my top three favorites. It’s a favorite from my childhood and it makes me feel so nostalgic. Part musical and part dialogue this movie captures the charm of all of the Muppet characters while bringing their own unique twist to the classic Christmas tale.

I hope you enjoyed these Holiday themed cozy-watching recommendations. Do you have any favorites that you’ve watched over the years?
