Count your age along your bookshelf—what book is it?

And it’s a book I still need to read too!

Name a book set in your city/country?

Love Radio follows the narrative of two teens, Prince and Danielle, through alternating point-of-views. Set in the Motor City, I was eager to delve into this book as I recognized all the sights and sounds detailed throughout the book. It showcases the beauty and culture of Detroit (my hometown) and the surrounding areas that I love and frequently visit. This YA novel plays off of some fun romance tropes as well.

Name a book that represents a destination you’d love to travel to

Himawari House is a beautiful graphic novel about culture, sisterhood, and friendships set in Japan. I grew to love the characters: Nao, Tina, and Hyejung, and when the story ended, I felt a satisfying closure but also alluded to what their futures might behold. The novel focuses on the women’s journey of heritage in a foreign country while trying to grow as individuals and it’s a story many readers can connect to.

Name your favorite childhood book

I was obsessed with this book as a child because it was too cute! I love the story still and I always get laughs out of it!

Name a book that’s your favorite color

A Deadly Inside Scoop is the first installment of the Ice Cream Parlor Mystery series that follows the main character, Bronwyn, as she takes over her family’s ice cream shop and tackles all of the whirlwind emotions of becoming a new business owner. Her nervous excitement about the shop’s grand re-opening is soon shattered once a family foe who reappears ends up dead near her shop. Bronwyn is determined with the help of friends to solve the mystery and clear her family’s name before it’s too late.

Which book do you have the fondest memories of?

Not the best book, but I have fond memories of the time the Twilight series was being released because of the friendships it brought. I got to connect with so many other fans and readers who shared the same interests as me. Plus I went to so many Twilight book events, which was so much fun. There are no midnight release parties for series anymore and it was a special time in my life.

Which book did you have the most difficulty reading?

Not the most difficult read, but one very emotional read for me. Umma’s Table is a beautifully written story about food and family. Following the narrative of Madang’s journey of living in the countryside, readers see him trying to establish a new life for himself and his family. All the while Madang is starting new beginnings he grapples with the ailing health of his parents. Personally, this novel was hard for me to read at times, and it made me cry too. Reading this novel made me think about loved ones who have since passed in my own life.

Which book in your TBR pile will give you the biggest accomplishment when you finish it?

Because it’s been on my TBR for so long. I checked my Goodreads account and this book has been on my TBR since 2014!
