1. Best color combo on a book cover

This is bright and bold cover that instantly catches your attention. I love the hues of pink and purple that hooks the reader and also ties into the twists and turns of this thriller. The Scammer is about a college freshman, Jordyn, at a prestigious HBCU whose life is upended when her roommate’s charming but controlling ex-con brother, Devonte, moves in, leading to a mysterious disappearance and a web of manipulation.

2. Best typography/font on a book cover

If you enjoy holidays and short story collections, For The Rest of Us, is a novel you’ll want to add to your TBR. Because it covers a wide range of diverse holidays throughout the year, readers can pick this up at any time. I like how the font is simple but uses illustrations to reflect the holidays mentioned in the stories.

3. Best simple cover

I usually don’t like simplistic illustration coves, but Lovelight Farms works. The cover art matches the cozy vibes of the story. ght. This novel has the fake dating trope mixed with the friends-to-lovers narrative. The small town and its residents were entertaining to read about and I love the tight-knit nature of all of the relationships portrayed in this book.

4. Best endpages

I’m not sure. I haven’t picked up any novels recently with fancy end pages.

5. Best map

Sinner’s Isle by Angela Montoya is a spellbinding romantic fantasy about a powerful witch who will do anything to escape the remote island she’s being held captive on, including blackmail a notorious, charming pirate. I love this old school map included to illustrate the locations of the story.

6. Best naked hardback

I think the setting of the story alone and having the main character, Meka, who is a mortuary assistant at her family’s funeral home, makes this an eerie read. The naked hardback for this novel has a dark purple covering with a raven and gothic style frames that matches the horror theme of the story.

7. Best back cover

I don’t know of any.

8. Best chapter headers

Ford has the most gorgeous illustrations in her books including the chapter headers which have delicate drawings. I’m definitely starting to collect physical copies of her novel as they are so pretty!

9. Best illustrations

I love how stunning the art is by Nekokurage in the Apothecary Diaries. Her artwork is detailed, immersive and it pulls you into the world of the story.

10. Best spine

The first installment of this series follows Penelope’s start to her freshman year at Anaximander’s Academy who’s curriculum and teachings are shaped around Greek mythology. Look at how gorgeous the spine is!

11. Favorite cover on your shelves

I love paper quill artwork and the vibrant colors used to create the letters on this cover. This story illustrates the moment in our lives when you are navigating the moment between adolescence and adulthood in an authentic way. It reminds reader how you can discover your own path in life while honoring your heritage.
