Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In this blog post series, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist of five songs.
This month’s features songs for rainy days. Springtime can be an especially rainy season depending on where you live, so I thought this theme would be perfect. Each song features “rain” in its title, talks about rain, and are mostly calming songs (with the exception of one track).
1) Raincoat by Kelly Sweet
Kelly Sweet is a singer-songwriter who’s smooth vocals and mellow music have a calm feeling. Raindrop is a slow-tempo pop jazz song filled with a lovely guitar and piano melody. Since starting out with a jazz pop standard style Kelly has now switched over to electropop music with her newest EP titled Sirens. This is one of my favorite tracks off her debut album We Are One.
2) Come Rain or Shine by Billie Holliday
One of the greatest and notable Jazz singers of all time is Billie Holiday. Billie had a voice that captured the attention of her audience and she’s one of my favorite singers of all time. In this tune, Billie croons about a person who she deeply cares for and how she will love him no matter what.
3) It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls
I couldn’t complete this list without the pop classic It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls which is composed of singers Izora Armstead and Martha Wash. It’s such a great dance song and was one of the biggest hits of the 80s. The MV is fun and though it has cheesy graphics, it matches with the song’s lyrics. This song always makes me want to dance even when I’m having a bad day!
4) Right As Rain by Adele
One of my favorite songs off of Adele’s debut album 19, is Right As Rain. This mid-tempo track talks about lamenting on a lost love, much like the songs on the rest of the album. However, this song embraces the pain of a bad relationship, playing off of the idiom “right as rain”. I absolutely love how Adele’s vocals shine on this track.
5) Rain by Lim Kim
Another mellow track about rainy days by Lim Kim completes this playlist. Lim Kim is a Korean singer that is a member of the band Togeworl, but is also a soloist as well. Her unique vocals shine on this jazzy song where she sings about how she has mixed feelings about rainy days. The MV is also has a nice theme, showing Lim dancing among the raindrops.
I hope you enjoyed this mini playlist! What are your own personal rainy day songs? Comment below with some suggestions.
