What I’m Listening To…My Favorite Musicals Pt.1

Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In my segment “What I’m Listening To” I share some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist consisting of five tracks.

I love musicals with all my heart! There’s something about people spontaneously bursting out into song that makes me happy! Since I have so many favorites (too many to count) this is only part one of my top musical picks! Enjoy!

1) Popular from Wicked

I have never seen Wicked in person, but the soundtrack and story alone is phenomenal. I think I enjoy it so much since it gives a new spin on a classic fairy tale where we get to learn more about some the prominent characters of The Wizard of Oz. Menzel and Chenoweth’s vocals soar in this musical.

2) Ten Minutes Ago from Cinderella

My favorite version of Cinderella! This not only had an all-star cast, but it was the most diverse musical I saw on TV as a kid. The acting was solid and I thought Brandy and Whitney Houston did a phenomenal job in this movie. The music is fun and I think it brings a fresh spin on the tale.

3) Seasons of Love from RENT

RENT! I could watch this movie and listen to its soundtrack endlessly. The film version is the only one I have seen, but it is done very well. The story of these young artists trying to survive in New York is intriguing, plus it deals with some heavy topics too. I loved watching their friendship grow and how the narratives weave together.

4) I’ll Do Anything from Oliver

Oliver is such a classic. This film version from the 1960s is my absolute favorite. I also helped out the stage crew when we put on the musical in elementary school so it’s no wonder I know all the songs by heart. Though Oliver’s tale is sad and tragic, it’s got a lot of heartwarming moments.

5) When You’re Good To Mama from Chicago

Chicago is a fantastic musical full of glitzy dresses, stunning performances, and a great cast. The story can be intense and gritty at times, but that’s what pulls its viewers in. I love the jazzy style of music and the 1920s setting. It’s got some surprising twists and turns that will have you hooked!

I hope you enjoyed this playlist! What are some of your favorite musicals? Comment below! 😀

  1. Ahh I love that version of Oliver! I used to watch it all the time as a kid and my sister and I memorised all the songs.😂 And YES to that version of Cinderella!! It was so amazing and magical and definitely one of my favourites.💛✨✨

  2. These are such great selections — I have many problems with the Rogers and Hammerstein oeuvre, but gosh, they wrote some damn catchy sons. “Ten Minutes Ago,” clear winner of songs in Cinderella. I have spent kind of a lot of time thinking about what my top five favorite musicals are, and it was VERY HARD. I ended up with Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar, Man of La Mancha, Les Miserables, and Hamilton, but it was hella hard to choose.

    1. Same for me! It’s too hard to choose between favorites, that’s why this is only part one, lol. Hamilton will for sure be featured in the next playlist. I’ve never seen Les Mes or JC Superstar, but I do like the music!
