Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I’ve Added To My To-Be-Read List Lately

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish. For more info on how to participate in this weekly post or future topics click here.

defy

Defy by Sarah Larson

One of my favorite booktubers, Naya Reads and Smiles,  mentioned this book in a recent video of her favorite underrated reads. It seems like it falls into the love triangle tropes of YA, but the fantasy and magic aspects sound interesting enough.

behold-the-dreamers

Behold The Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue

Ever since I read Adichie’s novel Americanah, I’ve been on the quest to read more books by African authors. The synopsis sounds good and I’m interested to see how the themes marriage, immigration, class, and race intersect in this novel.

wicked-the-divine-vol-2

The Wicked + The Divine Vol.2: Fandemonium by Kieron Gillen

I just read the first volume of this series last month and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is set in a world where gods are like pop stars. I’ve been on a graphic novel binge recently and this series is easily becoming one of my favorites.

nemesis-cover

Nemesis by Anna Banks

Despite a lot people saying they hate this cover, I actually like a lot. It’s what partially drew me to the book. It seems like a fun book filled with royalty, mystery, spies, and romance!

death-dickinson-and-the-demented

Death, Dickinson, and the Demented Life of Frenchie Garcia by Jenny Torres Sanchez

The title alone was enough for me to want to read this book. It seems like a deep YA book that is not only a coming of age story, but also focuses on some serious issues as well.

the-house-between-tidea

The House Between Tides by Sarah Maine

This novel about a woman who discovers the century-old remains of a murder victim on her family’s Scottish estate which leads her into an investigation of its former occupants. I love a good mystery so this is definitely up my alley. Plus I love the mysterious and eerie cover!

wonder-women

Wonder Women by Sam Maggs

I love learning about history and books infused with girl power! Wonder Women sounds like such a wonderful compilation of influential women throughout history.

a-shadow-bright-and-burning

A Shadow Bright and Burning (Kingdom on Fire #1) by Jessica Cluess

As you can probably tell by the other books listed in this Top Ten Tuesday, Fantasy is a reoccuring genre (and my favorite type of book to read!). The story follows a female sorcerer who goes to London to train with Her Majesty’s sorcerers. Sounds exciting!

everfair

Everfair by Nisi Shawl

I was absolutely hooked into this books synopsis after reading Jenny’s (The Reading End) amazing review of this book. It sounds like a good mix of fantasy and steam punk with a more globalized view.

willfulmachines

Willful Machines by Tim Floreen

I saw a review of this novel from Stefanie @ your daughters bookshelf and it looks good. It’s seems like it has a good balance of sci-fi and romance, so I’m definitely intrigued.

  1. Glad to see that you are on a quest to read more African Literature.I haven’t read Imbolo’s book but I’ve heard good things.NoViolet’s book called We Need New Names also has similar themes.I hope you enjoy all the books on your list.Lovely TTT 🙂

  2. Fantastic list. Behold The Dreamers is also on my TBR. Have heard promising things about it. The “Wonder Women” book has made the rounds in the blogosphere. It looks so good!
I also have Nisi Shawl’s book on my TBR. Omg, Rachel, you have excellent taste in books. 😀

  3. I’m 110% here for The Wicked + The Divine. I liked the first issue/volume well enough, but I need to find the second one. Behold the Dreamers looks so beautiful! I’ve been seeing it around a bit, so I may just have to steal that one for my TBR pile as well.

Great choices (because now my TBR is bubbling over even more than it already was)!
