Top Ten Tuesday: Places Mentioned In Books That I’d Like to Visit

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is The Top Ten Places Mentioned In Books That I’d Like to Visit. I find books are the most inexpensive way to travel on a budget, but I love the “wanderlust” effect that takes place when I travel to new places in books. Here are some of my picks.

The Royal Runaway– This book gave me some major Princess Diaries vibes! The Kingdom of  Drieden ( a European-esque country?) sounds like a quaint place with beauty scenery.

The Little Paris Bookshop – You had me at scenic Paris landscapes and a boat bookshop! I hope I get to visit France someday.

Outlander – Reading this book sparked my interest in traveling to Scotland. There are so many beautiful places to visit full of lush greenery.

Geekerella – I love conventions and the way ExcelsiCon (fictional) sounds like the ultimate comic convention. I’ve always wanted to go to a huge con on the West Coast.

A Bollywood Affair – The descriptions of India’s rich culture and landscapes is so enticing to this book. I also liked how it took an in-depth look at Bollywood movies.

Daughter of the Pirate King – There’s nowhere in this book that I’d like to visit specifically, but it did make me want to take a trip on the high seas. I’ve always wanted to take a tour on a historical ship!

Ghost Train to New Orleans –  Louisiana is on my top ten places to visit in the US. It’s got amazing food, historical sites, and it’s full of rich culture.

Second Daughter – The series is a fun fusion of steam punk with Indian characters. The desert kingdoms sound picturesque and full of new adventure.

Harry Potter – Who wouldn’t love to go to Hogwarts?! Even if I could spend just one day in that amazing castle, I’d be the happiest person on earth.

The Summer of Chasing Mermaids – I enjoyed the detail used to describe The Cove’s beautiful scenery in novel. It sounds like the perfect beach town for a relaxing vacation.

  1. I’ve been to Louisiana, and I loved it. I hope you’ll be able to see it for yourself today. The food is amazing, the sights are beautiful, and the people there are really friendly.

    My Top Ten Tuesday post.

  2. Same on most of these: HOGWARTS!!, of course! A huge con! – always wanted to go one of those. And New Orleans is one of my top 3 US cities that I really, really want to visit.

    1. My goal is to go to San Diego Comic Con or Anime Expo one year. It’s just so expensive. But Hogwarts and New Orleans would be such a good trip!

    1. That would be the perfect trip! I have a friend going to the UK this year and it sounds like it would be so much fun. And of course I’ll have to visit all the famous bookshops too. 🙂
