Slice of Life: Summer Wrap-Up 2026

Summer is coming to an end! While I’m sad to see the season go, I’m highly anticipating enjoying the Autumn. It was a hot summer with high temps, but I still had a great summer. Here are some of my highlights from Summer 2026!

Corinne Bailey Rae Concert

This was my second time seeing Corinne Bailey Rae in concert, but what made the show special is that is was the 20th anniversary of her debut album. That album was soundtrack of my youth and the music and lyrics mean so much to me. It definitely felt like a full circle moment! I love how infectious Corinne’s energy is on the stage and her deep passion for music.

Curious at Crossroads

I had a wonderfully spooky time at the Curious at Crossroads event at Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad. This was my first time at this event and weather was beautiful that day. There was a wide variety of vendors, rode on the carousel, and got to meet Butch Patrick who starred as Eddie Munster in The Munsters.

Dinosauria

Dinosauria is walk-through exhibit at the Detroit Zoo featuring life-sized, moving, and roaring animatronic dinosaurs. Being that I love dinosaurs this was my happy place as you can see from the photo above. The animatronics were so cool!

Detroit Festival of Books

The Detroit Festival of Books is the largest book festival in the State of Michigan. Bookfest hosts vendors from all over the United States and Canada. This festival is always a good time. I got chat with bookish friends, meet new to me authors, and added way to many goodies to my TBR/book accessories.

MI Anime Con

MiAnime (Michigan Anime Convention) is a two day con for all things Anime, Manga, etc. This is the second year for the con, but the first time I went with my friend who initially introduced me to anime years ago. I had so much fun cosplaying as one of my favorite Sanrio characters Keroppi!

Black Bottom Black Legacy Festival

Held at the Charles H. Wright Museum in August, this two-day hybrid festival was the debut of seven new Black Detroit community archives created by Preserving Black Legacy. What an enriching, engaging, and informative experience. It was amazing to her more stories of Black Bottom’s community and history.

Omega X: No Limit Tour 2026

Finally got to see Omega X! I had tickets to their concert back in 2024 that got cancelled so I’m glad I could finally see them live. It was such a high energy show and I was so close to the stage. It was a fun concert and I got to pass out freebies too.

Michigan State Fair

The end of the Summer means the Michigan State Fair is here! It was a day full of good food, rides, and sunny skies. It was also cool to see Harlequin Books make a stop here with their mobile book truck. My highlight of the day was hanging out with the family and eating elephant ears.
