My Favorite Things: September Edition

My Favorite Things” is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. Hope you enjoy these personal picks!

TV

Kitchen Nightmares

Synopsis: Chef Gordon Ramsay hits the road to help struggling restaurants all over the United States turn their luck around. Ramsay examines the problems each establishment faces, from unsanitary refrigerators to lazy or inexperienced staff, and searches for resolutions. With help from his team, Ramsay redecorates each eatery to give it a fresh new look and updates the menu as needed. Ramsay’s ultimate goal is to make the restaurants he visits popular and profitable, but it’s up to the restaurateurs to take his advice and turn their business nightmare into the American dream.

I am obsessed with cooking shows! This show used to be one of my top favorites when it was airing on TV and I’ve been re-watching the series from the beginning. Most of Gordon Ramsey’s shows focus on the being chefs, so I like how this one focuses on the service industry and gives a behind the scenes look of how a restaurant functions. If you like reality shows and cooking, this is the show to watch.

Creeped Out

Synopsis: A series of spellbinding, enchanting and intriguing tales that will bring chills to the back of the neck. Different characters must navigate their way through the unexplained.

Looking for something spooky to watch as Halloween season comes I chose this show which has been sitting in my Netflix queue for a while. This anthology series is a good mashup and reminds me of Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? which I used to watch all of the time. The stories are creepy, eerie, and just the right amount of spooky!

Stay Tuned

Synopsis: She’s the most unlikely candidate to ever stumble into the role of a reporter, and she’s keeping everyone on their toes with her eccentric ways.

This five episode J-Drama is based off a manga series of the same name. The drama focuses on the main character, Yukimaru, who is very clumsy but passionate about her job at the HHTV station. It’s a fun short series, where the characters really shine! It’s also informative as it gives viewers a behind the scenes look at broadcasting and all the departments that work on making the daily news!

Movies

Always Be My Maybe

Synopsis: Childhood sweethearts have a falling out and don’t speak for 15 years, only reconnecting as adults when Sasha runs into Marcus in San Francisco. Although the old sparks are still there, the couple live in different worlds.

I love to watch romantic comedies and since I’m a fan of Ali Wong (her stand up is hilarious!) and Randall Park (from Fresh Off the Boat) I knew I would enjoy this. It was a feel-good movie with the friends-to-lovers trope where the two leads slowly reconnect after being estranged for so long. It was so funny, heartwarming, and it’s about finding your passion in life.

The Kitchen

Synopsis: Between 8th Ave. and the Hudson River, the Irish mafia runs 20 blocks of a tough New York City neighborhood known as Hell’s Kitchen. But for mob wives Kathy, Ruby and Claire, things are about to take a dramatic and radical turn. When the FBI sends their husbands to prison, the three women take business into their own hands by running the rackets and taking out the competition.

Based on the based on the Vertigo comic book miniseries of same name this movie has a star-studded cast. Despite all the negative reviews it got, I enjoyed it thoroughly. It’s highly graphic (trigger warnings), but it has a very interesting story line that pulls you in. It’s got some dark humor along with many action-packed scenes. It was so intense!

Music

Adios by Everglow

Since I’ve been so busy with work, I’m a bit behind with a lot of the newer K-Pop releases. One of the newer rookie groups, Everglow has been a standout artist for me. I love the EDM sound of this song and the choreography is fire!

Telephone Number by Junko Ohashi

I’ve been listening to a lot of City Pop at work lately and this song has been coming up in every playlist on Youtube. I enjoy a lot of Ohashi’s music, but song stand out to me the most. It’s poppy, jazzy, and has that 80s sound that I love.

On The Wings of Love by Jeffrey Osborne

This is one of my favorite ballad songs ever! Osborne’s voice is so soothing and I love how beautiful the lyrics are. His rich vocals along with the sweet melody makes this song a classic.

Youtube

WhitneyBae

Whitney’s channel chronicles her life as American girl living in South Korea. I like the variety of her video content and she has a warm and goofy personality that shines through her videos. As a Black woman who likes to use Korean skincare products I like watching her makeup videos to find what products are good for my skin complexion. Her videos are so much fun!

Webtoons

SubZero

Synopsis: What would you sacrifice to save your family? How far would you go to protect your people? For Clove, the last princess of a near-extinct Dragon clan, the answer is the unthinkable: MARRY your greatest sworn enemy in an effort to bring peace to your land.

Not only did the story peak my interest from the synopsis alone, but the artwork is so amazing! The colors and detail bring the story to life. The world building is strong and the story pulls you in from the first chapter. SubZero is one epic fantasy saga (the stories I love) with romance, rivalry, ancient dragons, and lots of action. I’m curious to see if the two kingdoms can truly unite.
