Great American Baking Holiday: Celebrity Holiday

Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry host a baking contest in the iconic tent, with six celebrity bakers who bake up a holiday storm to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith and win the coveted cake stand and Star Baker crown.

If you’ve been following this blog for a while now, you know much I love cooking shows. This is an American holiday version of the Great British Bake-Off which feature celebrities. It’s very relaxed and what made it entertaining to watch is seeing the celebrities getting passionate about baking even though they all have different levels of baking skills. It was fun to watch and made me laugh out loud a lot. I hope they bring this series back again for the next holiday season.

Hometown Cha-Chat-Cha

At a crossroads, a dentist moves to a seaside village where she meets a handyman intent on helping his neighbors.

I’ve seen a lot of people recommend this drama and I’m so glad I started to watch it. At the time of this post, I’ve still go about six episodes until I finish the series but I love it wholeheartedly. This show feels like “chicken soup for the soul”! It’s cozy, funny, romantic, and has even made me cry at times but I still recommend it. It feels like a very realistic drama about life, navigating through complicated pasts, and overcoming fear. The seaside village setting is breathtaking and each one of the town’s people has their special charm making the show entertaining to watch.

A Brief History of (weird and wonderful) Victorian Christmas Cards

As a person who loves all things snail mail and stationery, this video about Victorian Christmas cards was so fascinating. I always see memes about these wacky cards floating around the internet and it was interesting to learn about how the tradition of Christmas cards got started.

The Victims of K-pop’s ‘Glass Cliff’ Phenomenon

I love a good think-piece/ video essay and this K-Pop video discusses the interpretation of the theory of the glass cliff applied to girl groups. I think this can be applied to entertainment music as a whole and the misogyny these female artists often face and the way they are used for profit.

Gloria by Naul

An amazing and breathtaking soulful song. I get goosebumps every time I hear this song and its melodic vocals and strong lyrics. The music video fits perfectly with this track.

The News by Paramore

I’ve been a longtime fan of Paramore and am always excited about what will come next. Their new sound is fresh but I can still hear a bit of their original music in these latest releases. This song is edgy and punk rock and I like the song’s message of performative and exploitative activism on social media and the manipulative agenda settings found in today’s news.

Mr. Snowman by Sarah Kang, Sam Ock

What a cute Wintery mid-tempo ballad. I became a fan of Kang’s music back in 2022 and this track is perfect for the season. It’s a playful duet song about a girl who falls in love with a snowman.
