City of Ghosts
Synopsis: Ghost Club members embark on adventures all around Los Angeles as they interview ghosts, solve problems and learn about their city’s history.
City of Ghosts is the most wholesome and heartwarming show I’ve seen (in animation) in a while. I love how the show has some solid representation and shows people from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. In each episode, the ghosts have a story to share that introduces us to various parts of Los Angeles and the history of the city. I enjoyed learning about the history and connecting with the Ghost Club members. The animation style reminds me of Animal Crossing and it is too cute. This show was so soothing for me and I hope they create another season!
Schitts Creek
Synopsis: In the sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” a wealthy couple — video store magnate Johnny and his soap opera star wife Moira — suddenly find themselves completely broke. With only one remaining asset, a small town called Schitt’s Creek, which the Roses bought years earlier as a joke, this once-wealthy couple must give up life as they know it. With their two spoiled children in tow and their pampered lives behind them, the Rose family is forced to face their newfound poverty head-on and come together as a family to survive.
I’m kind of late to the game with watching this show, but I love it! The comedy is spot on and I enjoy the fish out of water narrative which adds to the entertainment factor. Some elements of the show remind me of Ouran High School Host Club reversed since the family has such high tastes and then struggles to adapt to small-town life. The acting is what does it for me when watching this show and I feel the cast chemistry is spot on. I binged watched the first season in one day and slowly working my way through the remaining seasons.
The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia
Synopsis: This show follows a prodigy named Ashley Garcia, the “only 15-and-a-half-year-old robotics engineer and rocket scientist” in the world who moves in with her Uncle Victor from the other side of the country for a chance to work for NASA.
I always appreciate a solid coming-of-age story narrative and this show is just that. It shows an intelligent girl and her deep passion for the STEM field. Moving away from home allows her to get to be more of a teenager since all she’s done is study most of her years. It a show about growing up, experience first loves, trying to find yourself, and balancing life’s many components. I’m still watching the first part but I enjoy the show’s lighthearted nature and the cast.
The Orville: Season One
Synopsis: Down on his luck after a bitter divorce, Planetary Union officer Ed Mercer finally gets his chance to command his own ship. Determined to prove his worth and start a new chapter, Ed discovers the first wrinkle in his plan when the First Officer assigned to his ship is his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson. As the new commander, Ed assembles a qualified — but eccentric crew.
The Orville kind of reminds me of a Star Trek spin-off with more comedy elements. I always think space opera shows are fascinating so I wanted to give this show a try. I’ve seen bits and pieces of it when it aired on TV, but now I’m finally taking the time to sit down and watch. I’m really enjoying it so far and I think the humor, mixed with a crew of varying personalities, and some special effects make it a fun show to watch. I just hear it got picked up for a third season so I have a lot of catching up to do.

Sundai Love
This channel is a new find for me. I’m not too familiar with Sundai as I didn’t watch that particular season of America’s Next Top Model she was featured on, but I enjoy her content. I like travel vloggers and seeing different perspectives of people around the globe. Her videos are fun and gives me some travel tips to where I should visit.
Sabrina & Friends
Another channel I discovered this month. I like that each video covers different topics such as “why entry-level jobs aren’t entry-level” or “why small talk sucks”. They are easy to digest and I like the candid nature of how they answer simple and sometimes complex questions. This Lofi video (above) was an eye-opener for me.
Webtoon
The Newlywed Diary of a Witch and Dragon
Synopsis: After spending the night with a recent hire of the Tower of Magic, Wendy Blanchett, a talented young leader of the Rune Research Division, is faced with an impossible dilemma. She fears for her position and reputation when the newbie, Aiden Winters, asks her to marry him.
This is a fairly new webtoon that was released on the Line Webtoon app. It’s originally a Korean manwha and so far, I really enjoy it. The artwork and character design is beautiful. I can’t say too much about the story yet, but I like the blend of marriage with fantasy elements. It’s also got some interesting worldbuilding aspects to hook the reader into the plot.

Leave The Door Open – Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic
I love retro songs since I listen to a lot of older music. I was highly anticipating this comeback from Bruno Mars since it’s been a while. I love the smooth vocals and the overall composition. I’ve had it on repeat non-stop. It’s a funky slow jam.
The Lonely Bloom Stands Alone – HYNN
Hynn is a South Korean singer with an amazing voice! She became known through competing on the competition show Superstar K 2016. She has a great vocal range and I found her through watching street performances of this song. This ballad is a good fit for Spring. It’s such a pretty song!

Oh, that Hynn song is gorgeous. Like you, I was late to Schitt’s Creek and stormed through the first season but have been a little fits-and-starts-y since. Although I’ve started Mythic Quest Raven’s Banquet, I’m spacing the episodes out. And I’ve just got the last season of Kim’s Convenience to watch (now that they’ve announced it’s finishing early, because Ins Choi is done writing for them and they didn’t believe an/other writer/s could pick up his lead for the last season) which makes me a little sad…they just got better and better. In April, I read Amelia Pang’s Made in China, which added immeasurably to my understanding of the camps and labour practices in China; it was a very gripping story of one man’s efforts to escape that system (via a woman who bought Hallowe’en decorations manufactured where he was enslaved) but also had some history along the way.
Glad you liked the Hynn song, the live street performances of that song is so incredible. It sounds even better than the studio version. I still have to get started on Kim’s Convenience. I’m sad to hear that it’s ending. It’s always hard when the series I love come to a close, abruptly ends, or gets canceled. I’ll have to check out Amelia Pang’s Made in China too. That sounds like a deep and interesting book. I hope you’re having a good May so far!
