My 2016 Summer Reading TBR List!

2016 Summer Reading TBR List

Summer is finally here, even if the season doesn’t officially start till June 20th. I’ve been enjoying all of the lovely warm weather we’ve been getting in Michigan as of lately, so I hope it continues through the season. Here is a mini list of some of the books I plan to read for this summer.

rebel-of-the-sands

Rebel of The Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

This was one of the books on my spring TBR that I never got around to reading. This book looks really good and I like that it’s a Middle-Eastern tale that mixes fantasy with adventure. Sounds like my kind of summer read!

Radiance of Tomorrow

Radiance of Tomorrow by Ishmael Beah

This has been on my bookshelf for a while now. I purchased it for a reading challenge I was doing last year, but I never got around to reading it. This one looks like the story will be heartbreaking since the theme of the book is centered around postwar life in Sierra Leone, but it still sounds intriguing to me.

Drums of Autumn

Drums of Autumn (Outlander #4) by Diana Gabaldon

After tackling the 1000 pages in Oulander’s third book (Voyager) last year, I’m ready to revisit the journey of Jamie & Claire once again. I’m really excited to continue with the series and I love the way Gabaldon writes this epic saga. There is so much adventure and action in these books, so I never get bored with them.

salt to the sea

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

I bought this highly anticipated book back in February for my birthday and am ready to read it for the summer. I absolutely love historical fiction so the fact that it is centered around a ship in WWII is very interesting to me. I’ve never heard about the incident that Sepetys wrote the book about so I’m sure I will take a lot away from this novel!

girl in translation

Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok

I was able to get my hands on a copy of this book earlier this year and it’s been on my TBR list for a while. Girl in Translation follows a girl and her mother who emigrate from Hong Kong to Brooklyn. She begins a new life as a schoolgirl during the day and Chinatown sweatshop worker in the evenings.

modern romance

Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari

I have loved Aziz Ansari’s acting and comedy style ever since I’ve seen him in the TV show Parks & Recreation. I’m interested in reading and hearing what he has to say about ups and downs of modern romance.

That concludes this mini list of my summer reading TBR. This list is just a slim picking of what I want to accomplish reading-wise this summer. Hopefully I can get through these and other books that are sitting on my shelf. Usually I’m horrible at sticking to my summer TBR since I’m a mood reader. Plus I often get distracted by other shiny books I own.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that I get through these six books and others on my TBR this summer!

  1. I really liked Modern Romance! A lot of it was admittedly common sense but his humor just makes it really entertaining to read =)

  2. Love this list! The diversity of genres and authors makes my heart smile 😀

I haven’t made a summer reading list yet, but the one I most definitely WILL be reading is Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi.
