Cozy Up To These Winter TV Show Recommendations

I love watching TV shows, especially cozy or engaging ones to watch as I spend a lot of time indoors during the Winter months. I’ve seen so many over the years, but here are some picks of shows that I’ve enjoyed and recommend for anyone looking to add some shows to their seasonal watchlist.

Yuri On Ice

Synopsis: Yuri Katsuki carried the hope of all Japan on his shoulders in the Figure Skating Grand Prix, but suffered a crushing defeat in the finals. He returned to his hometown in Kyushu and hid away in his family’s home, half wanting to continue skating and half wanting to retire. That was when the five-time consecutive world champion, Victor Nikiforov, suddenly showed up with his teammate, Yuri Plisetsky, a young skater starting to surpass his seniors. And so the two Yuris and the Russian champion Viktor set out to compete in a Grand Prix like none the world has ever seen!

This anime is truly a delight! I love the art of figure skating which is what originally drew me to the show (that and it’s ever rising popularity in the US). The animation is beautiful and striking! I loved how smooth the skate sequences are (they filmed Olympic skaters in order to create these scenes) and I can see how hard the team worked to bring this show to life. If you’re looking for a sports anime with heart, this is the show to watch!

The Terror

Synopsis: The show, adapted from Dan Simmons’s 2007 novel by the same name, proceeds from a simple, killer hook: two ships trapped out on the ice, a crew under increasing strain, and a murderous, largely unseen presence stalking them through the howling snows.

I’ve only watched the first season of this show, but I’m highly impressed with it. I definitely plan on watching season 2, and hope they continue to produce more episodes. The first season focuses on the story of the real life HMS Terror was a specialized warship and how it was trying to complete a trip through the Artic and was never heard from again. With a fantastic cast and lots of spooky supernatural elements this was a entertaining watch! The horror is a slow build up especially when the crew becomes stranded and they realize that something lurks outside the ship they reside in.

Solomon’s Perjury

A male student’s body is found at school on Christmas Day. Authorities assume that the student killed himself in a fall. Other students at the school hold a trial to uncover the truth behind his death.

This show was so intense and it kept me constantly on edge. It’s more of a teen drama (in Korean drama standards), but its worth watching. Since it’s shorter than most K-dramas (it’s 12 episodes long) I found it easy to binge watch. The narrative was easy to follow and I loved how the writers kept the mystery aura throughout the show. As each episode passes the audience start to make judgement about whose innocent or guilty. If you’re looking for a murder mystery drama, this is one to watch.

Zero Chill

Talented teen figure skater Kayla is forced to leave everything behind when her family follows her twin brother, Mac, to a prestigious hockey academy.

You probably know by now that I’m a huge fan of ice skating. I’m bummed that this show only got canceled after one season, but the ending is solid enough that viewers won’t be left on such a cliffhanger. The show follows twin siblings as they try to navigate their lives on and off the ice rink in a brand new environment. It was a lot of fun to watch and the show’s cast had good chemistry overall. It’s very light-hearted and made me laugh a lot. My favorite parts were seeing the ice routines and hockey games in action.

  1. Hmmm, I haven’t seen any of these. And I don’t think there’s anything super wintry about my viewing these days, even though this is my favourite season. I’m finishing up a re-watch of “Dark” (on Netflix). It does seem to suit this time of year, but I don’t think there’s even one flake of snow in it!
