My name is Rachel, so let’s begin with R! (I tried really hard to pick books I haven’t talked about before)

“Remember Me”-Sophie Kinsella

When twenty-eight-year-old Lexi Smart wakes up in a London hospital, she’s in for a big surprise. Her teeth are perfect. Her body is toned. Her handbag is Vuitton. Having survived a car accident—in a Mercedes no less—Lexi has lost a big chunk of her memory, three years to be exact, and she’s about to find out just how much things have changed. (Goodreads)

I love reading any book by Sophie Kinsella. She knows how to carefully balance the genre of romance, comedy, and drama. I picked this book because it’s a fun, lighthearted read and it’s one of my favorite books by Kinsella.

“A Kiss in Time”- Alex Flinn

This book is the second in Alex Flinn’s Fairy Tales series (the book released before this was Beastly, which was also a good read). I enjoyed this book because it was a modern spin-off of the story of Sleeping Beauty. It was really funny since Talia (the princess who is based on the character Sleeping Beauty) is always getting on, our “hero”,  Jack’s nerves.

“City of Bones”- Cassandra Clarke

This series has become one of my new favorites so I couldn’t resist adding it to the my list! Clarke does an amazing job of creating a world full of the paranormal and supernatural in a big city. The cast of characters are great and there’s lots of action and drama. Every book in this series is a page turner.

“Happy Hour at Casa Dracula”-Marta Acosta

Latina Ivy League grad Milagro de Los Santos can’t find her place in the world or a man to go with it. Then one night, at a book party for her pretentious ex-boyfriend, she meets an oddly attractive man. After she is bitten while kissing him, she falls ill and is squirreled away to his family’s estate to recover. Vampires don’t exist in this day and age — or do they? (Goodreads)

This series stands out amongst other vampire books with its new take on vampires (you’ll understand once you read it). The book is full of laughs provided by the cast of characters and various situations that happen. I also love the sassiness of our main protagonist, Milagro, which makes her a very likable character.

evernight

“Evernight”- Claudia Gray

She’s been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn’t fit in. (Goodreads)

So I had a really hard time finding books that began with “E” that I had actually read. Then I finally found “Evernight”. I liked this book a lot, and it’s the first in the “Evernight” series. The cool, historic, and mysterious boarding school makes for a good setting for the beginning of the series. And there’s also a bit of insta-love in the book, which is annoying, but it’s not completely unbearable.

“The Lovely Bones”- Alice Sebold

“The Lovely Bones” is a book about a family devastated by a gruesome murder and is told by the teenage victim. This is a terribly sad book, but I highly recommend it. The writing is so detailed, and the story is heartbreaking since it’s narrated in the voice of victim.
