Today’s Topic: The Weather In Books Tag

Found At: Pages Below The Vaulted Sky

SUNSHINE: A BOOK THAT MADE YOU SMILE

I think this graphic novel is well-balanced between the slice-of-life bits and the hockey games shown on the pages. Though it’s about the bromance of a hockey team that essentially acts as one big family (which I thought was so endearing) it also talks about navigating college. The main character Bitty made me smile for his love of baking and just being a sweetheart in general.

RAIN: A BOOK YOU COULDN’T PUT DOWN

This is a very food-centric cozy mystery that takes place in a restaurant along with a tight-knit community of small businesses. Like most cozies, Lana’s (the main character sidekick ends up being her roommate and together they work to find out the mystery. It was a very binge-worthy read.

WIND: A BOOK THAT BLEW YOU AWAY

What an emotional and beautifully written novel! For me personally, I sometimes have a hard time reading novels written in verse/part-verse, but Atta’s writing was so lyrical and smooth. Each poem stood out as their own and offers very incredibly powerful glimpses in Michael’s life and how he discovers a version of himself in his drag persona, The Black Flamingo.

HURRICANE: A TRAGIC BOOK

This was a bittersweet novel full of heartbreak, family, and identity. The story accurately displays the harm that stereotypes cause and how they struggle to break out of these boundaries that defy time and space. It’s a story about a multigenerational family affected by pain from the past.

BLIZZARD: A BOOK YOU HAD HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR

I thought the social commentary on society, hierarchies, and our ecosystem to be really interesting in relatable to a lot of the conversations that we’re having in today’s world. This was a case where this particular book wasn’t for me since it was too slow-moving for my taste personally.

TORNADO: A BOOK YOU DIDN’T LIKE AT FIRST BUT ENDED UP LOVING

This novel follows the story of three sisters: Liza, Maggie, and Tricia who have come together after the death of their father. I liked the development of the characters and it was a strong narrative. But overall I felt a bit bored by this book. I think the reason I had trouble reading this novel, because I couldn’t connect with it at times and the story fell flat in some parts.
