Which trope(s) in books annoys you the most?

The Black and White Morality Theme. I think this trope bothers me a bit because when books have characters that follow cliché is when the line between good and evil is so cut and dry it becomes a bit uninteresting. I like to see some characters with complexities and when they fall into this trope they are underwhelming and it affects the story as a whole.

Which writer(s) do you feel is overrated/overhyped?

I’ll just add some books I think are overhyped. I don’t think they were necessarily bad, just not for me. When I look back on these books I think I was caught up in the hype but I wouldn’t go back and finish these series.

What are your least favorite books you’ve read since joining blogging?

The Secrets of Life and Death was a novel I found myself losing initial interest in the novel as the story moved very slowly for my tastes. Orchid’s concepts were a bit confusing to grasp and I felt like a lot of information was being thrown at me in a short amount of time. In Finding Fraser, the writing was so choppy in the first half that I almost DNF’d the book and the novel also suffered from a lack of character development.

What is a terrible ending that ruined an otherwise quality book?

My main problem with Tomorrow is that at many points in the story I had a very vague sense of what is happening. And even by the end of the book when everything was revealed, I still felt there were so many questions unanswered and I was puzzled.

Which fictional character(s) do you wish was not killed off?

Finnick in Mockingjay! I’m still mad about that!

What are some of your bookish pet peeves?

Stickers on front book covers, when people try to read your book over your shoulder, and when people dog-ear pages.

What are some books you feel should have more recognition?

Dawn Among of Stars | Along for the Ride | Who Put This Song On?

What are your thoughts on censorship and banning books?

I’m against it.

Who do you tag?

    1. Yes! And it’s so rude and when you turn around to question them, they don’t act like they’re doing anything wrong. It used to happen quite a lot when I rode the bus to work.

  1. This looks like a fun tag to do! I absolutely hate stickers on covers as well. The worst are the ones that are actually printed onto the cover so they look like stickers but actually aren’t so you can’t remove them. I mean, WHY?!

    1. That is the worst when they fake you out when it looks like a sticker. And it always takes up a huge chunk of the cover art. I loved participating in this book tag.

  2. We share all those pet peeves…EXCEPT that I did often read over people’s shoulders when I was taking public transit (i.e. preCOVID) when I was a stop or two away from my stop, so had had to pack away my own book. I just hated not being able to read and was happy to read whatever anyone else was reading (but did so covertly, when possible…you probably would have “caught me” though). And that black-white-no-grey thing is my biggest peeve.

    1. Haha! I completely understand. When I used to ride public transit I could feel people breathing on me because they were trying to read over m shoulder and I was so uncomfortable. I think that sometimes they wanted to know the book title, but they would never ask me.
