A book that made me happy

everything everything

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

This book was so cute and the romance was so sweet. Maddy is such an awesome protagonist and even though she’s essentially a “bubble girl” she tries to make the most out of her situation. I also like the way Maddy and Olly’s relationship progressed throughout the book.

A book that I love

hyperbole and a half

Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh

I had heard so much about this book and when I finally got it as a birthday present, I was elated. Allie Brosh had me laughing so much throughout this entire book that I even had tears coming from my eyes. Her life stories are relatable and I think most readers will enjoy this book.

A book that shocked me

the good goodbye

The Good Goodbye by Carla Buckley

The Good Goodbye kept me on edge with all its twists and turns. I loved the varying perspectives with each chapter and just when you decided to side with one character, you started to have doubts when you read the following chapter and wasn’t sure who to trust. If you like drama or suspenseful books this novel is right up your alley.

A book that confused me

the accident season

The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle

There was too much going on in this book in order for my mind to wrap itself around the story. It was weird at times and the main character was so lost in her own dream world that I wasn’t sure what was real or fake. I just couldn’t connect with the story very well.

A book that I couldn’t connect to

5 to 1

5 to 1 by Holly Bodger

A great story idea, but in the end it fell kind of flat for me. I could connect with the characters and sympathize with their stories, but I felt the author could have expanded on more of the themes and developed the characters even further. If the book was longer I think it would have been even better.

A book with dreamy writing

the little paris bookshop

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George

Though I had mixed thoughts about this novel, I felt the writing was “dreamy” because of the immense detail used in order to describe the scenery and landscape. I’ve always thought as Paris as a “romantic” city so I love reading books about it. Plus a quaint little boat bookshelf is a dream in itself.

A book that made me sad

Anna and the Swallow Man

Anna and the Swallow Man by Gavriel Savit

Anna and the Swallow Man deals with heavy topics since shows readers the perspective of WWII from a young girl’s point of view. While it is beautifully written and fantasy-like, small details like gunshots and how scarce food is brings you back to harsh realities of war.
