Bibliophile Tips: How To Read More Books

Hello everyone! I’m back with another round of Bibliophile Tips! Today I’ll be chatting about tips to read more when your schedule is very busy. Here are some suggestions to optimize your daily routine for more reading time.

Read when you wake and/or before bedtime

I’ve been on a mission to reduce my screen time. Especially since I have a job that requires me to work at a computer all day long. When I wake up in the morning, I always grab a book to read with my first cup of coffee or wind down in the evening. Both methods allow me to unwind and relax while reading.

Read on your commute

I always think it’s a great idea to carry a book on the go whether it’s on an e-reader or physical copy. You never know when you’ll get some downtime to read and if you take public transportation you can read on the way to your destination. Or if you have your own car, listen to an audiobook. I personally switch between music, audiobooks, and podcasts depending on my mood. It helps to pass the time.

Keep an (obtainable) reading goal

I don’t do many bookish challenges anymore since I’m always busy but one thing I do is set a yearly reading goal for myself. It’s also important to make sure you give yourself breathing room when goal setting. Set them realistically or focus on certain types of books you would like to read. Even setting a goal of reading 20 pages a day will help motivate you to read more.

Borrow reading time from another hobby/activity

As I mentioned earlier, I have a horrible habit of too much screen time so instead of picking up my phone I’ll read instead. Or I make my schedule to swap out watching anime for reading instead. It’s a good way to balance out my hobbies and read more.

Read multiple books

I’ve always been a reader that must read multiple books over one book at a time. Reading more than one book helps me to complete my reading goals and enjoy more books. I know being a poly reader isn’t for everyone though. I try to balance multiple books by reading with different mediums and genres. For example, if I’m reading a fantasy novel, I’ll pair it up with an audiobook, and then throw in a manga too.

  1. Going to bed earlier with my book is a good one for me. Mind you, I start to plummet when I am not reading enough, so it’s a good motivation to pick up a book.

Oh, and getting a Terrible Virus like I’ve just had – that’s good for reading, in the middle of the night when you wake up coughing, etc. Of course I just read nine books in a community/romance series with no diversity set in the Scottish Highlands on my Kindle rather than the books off my TBR I intended to read, so …

    1. I hope you’re feeling much better now. I tend to actually read more on my Kindle when I’m sick as well. It’s more accessible for me. I’ve made reading before bed a part of my daily evening routine now.
