Destination Bookstore: Metro Detroit Pt.7

Hello everyone! I love visiting independent bookstores and shopping at local businesses regularly. Because it’s important to #shopsmall, here are some bookstores in the Metro Detroit area that you should visit when you’re here. Some of these shops have websites that you can shop at as well if you can’t shop in person! (Previous List Here)


Pages Bookshop

Pages Bookshop opened its doors in Detroit in 2015 with a mission to be a neighborhood bookstore. In 2025, Pages they are new ownership under a Cooperative partnership between The Steen Foundation, The Hershekissis, and the Black Marriage Movement. Pages feels more like a community space than just a bookstore. They are welcoming to their customers and hold many great events along with a wide variety of books to shop from. You are bound to leave with a book or accessory that will brighten your day.


Whistler’s Daughter

Located in Ferndale, Michigan, this bookstore is one of the new additions to the area opening up in late 2025. This is a small family-owned indie store that wants to love of creativity and connection with its customers. This bookstore is incredibly cozy and sells used and new books. What makes this store stand out is it’s kid lit room that provides a reading nook for young readers and its extensive collection of cookbooks. They also host a monthly cookbook book club! They have plenty of a selection to offer as gift items or a purchase to treat yourself with. The staff is so friendly and warm.


Toadvine Books

You can find Toadvine Books in Berkley, Michigan. They have with new and used book for adults and kids, as well as a great section of comics. This is one of those bookstores that you’ll want to make sure that you have time to roam in as there are some bookish gems hidden within their bookshelves. I found so many good books that were on my TBR and even some novels I haven’t heard of before. The staff is welcoming and I appreciate that they carry a good amount of each genre. If you’re looking for rare books, you can find them at this store too.
