6 Thrillers To Dive Into This Autumn
I love watching movies, especially cozy ones that fit the brisk temps of the Autumn season. This time I’m changing things up and recommending thrillers since Autumn is also provides a perfect backdrop for mysterious and atmospheric tales. I’ve seen so many over the years, but here are some picks of Thrillers movies that I’ve enjoyed and recommend for anyone looking to add some films to their watchlist.
For cozier films, check out my previous list here.
Missing

When her mother disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, June’s search for answers is hindered by international red tape. Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her before it’s too late. However, as she digs ever deeper, her digital sleuthing soon raises more questions than answers.
This thriller and it’s amazing cast kept me on the edge of my seat. It’s definitely a movie that will take you on a emotional rollercoaster that leaves a lasting impact that sticks with you long after moving it. The film explores complex themes such as loss, identity, and the lengths people will go to protect their loved ones. I thought the way it was told through social media apps, video chats, and mobile devices. It added a layer of suspense to all of the non-stop action in the film.
To Catch a Thief

Notorious cat burglar John Robie has long since retired to tend vineyards on the French Riviera. When a series of robberies is committed in his style, John must clear his name. Armed with a list of people who own the most expensive jewels currently in the area, John begins following the first owner, young Francie. When her jewels are stolen, Francie suspects John, destroying their tentative romance. John goes on the lam to catch the thief and clear his own name.
In my eyes it doesn’t beat Rear Window which also starred Grace Kelly (as thrillers go), but its still an engaging film to watch from beginning to end. The move is takes a light and humorous path and gives a cat-and-mouse feeling as John is trying to track down the true thief. There are beautiful views of the French Rivera and scenery throughout the film making for a enjoyable cinematic experience.
End of the Road

In this high-octane action thriller, a cross-country road trip becomes a highway to hell for Brenda and her family. Alone in the New Mexico desert, they have to fight for their lives when they become the targets of a mysterious killer.
Queen Latifah starring in an action thriller? Sign me up! Some parts of this film are a bit formulaic (which is to be expected), but it did have a lot of unexpected twists and turns in the plot. I loved the chemistry of the cast and as always Latifah killed it in her main role. It was lots of high-action moments which kept me on the edge of my seat. End of The Road is an entertaining thriller for a weekend watch.
Breaking In

Shaun Russell takes her son and daughter on a weekend getaway to her late father’s secluded, high-tech vacation home in the countryside, but the family soon gets an unwelcome surprise when four men break into the house to find hidden money. After managing to escape, Shaun must now figure out a way to turn the tables on the desperate thieves and save her captive children.
Gabrielle Union kicked ass in this movie (literally)! Though the plot for the movie is very simple, I felt that it was executed well. There was constant action and an overlaying suspense throughout the whole movie which added to the viewing experience. I was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next and if the family would escape from the house unscathed. The stunts were pretty cool in this movie! If you like a good thriller, I recommend it.
Stonehearst Asylum

A new employee at a mental hospital becomes attracted to one of his colleagues, but he is unaware of a recent, horrifying change in staff.
Stonehearst Asylum is a thriller period drama where nothing is at is seems. The viewer isn’t really sure which character is telling the truth, so while watching the film you’re constantly trying to piece the puzzle together. The film has some notable actors who do such a great job of playing the characters. The ending threw me for a loop! Definitely recommended for all those who love dark stories of the great Edgar Allan Poe (since it’s a loose adaptation of one of his works)
Creepy

Takakura is a former detective. He receives a request from his ex-colleague, Nogami , to examine a missing family case that occurred 6 years earlier. Takakura follows Saki’s memory. She is the only surviving family member from the case.Meanwhile, Takakura and his wife Yasuko recently moved into a new home. Their neighbor, Nishino, has a sick wife and a young teen daughter. One day, the daughter, Mio, jumps into Takakura’s house and tells him that the man is not her father and she doesn’t know him at all.
This movie will really throw its viewers for a loop! There are trigger warnings for many scenes of violence, so be advised. I love watching psychological thrillers with twists and turns. For this movie the plot is a bit predictable, but what was the most interesting was to see how it turned out in the end. The acting is phenomenal and they had me completely convinced by their roles in the story. A must watch if you love dark thrillers!
What other Thriller movies do you watch during the Autumn season do you enjoy/recommend watching? Comment below!

I liked “Missing”; I wasn’t expecting the story to take the turn that it took.
We watched The Blackening just before Hallowe’en (horror not thriller) but, more recently, I’ve darted back to safety for viewing.
I watched The Accidental Twins the other night. A documentary, but there is an element of suspense because if you don’t know the story (I didn’t!), you just see these two young women talking about something weird they notice when out shopping to prepare for a get-together, and it sparks a series of questions that change the lives of two different families forever. Also, you get to see just normal life in Colombia!
I’ll have to add The Accidental Twins to my watchlist. Thank you for the documentary rec, I’m always looking for new ones to watch. I did enjoy The Blackening as well. And yes Missing caught me off guard with the twists in that movie!
