4 Shows That Are a Must-Watch for Any Cozy Mystery Reader

I love a good mystery show, especially ones involving super-sleuthing detectives. I’ve seen so many over the years, but here are some picks of shows that I’ve enjoyed and recommend for any avid cozy mystery reader. To see even more recommendations, click here.

Morning Show Mysteries

The theme for the Morning Show Mysteries series centers around a Seattle-based, TV chef Billie Blessings as she becomes involved in various murder criminal investigations, and her relationship with police detective Ian Jackson who is in charge of the homicide unit.

I love a good mystery show, especially ones involving amateur-sleuthing detectives. This is a great miniseries for those who love cozy mysteries. The show is suspenseful without being too intense and each new mystery thrown Billie’s way is full of twists and turns. I think what makes this show so entertaining is the characters who have such good chemistry and banter with each other in each episode. It’s thrilling while also being comedic and even has a bit of romance thrown in.

Kiriko’s Crime Diary

Hitotsubashi Kiriko is struck with a sense of emptiness and despair after the death of her best friend from illness. One day, Kiriko is inspired by the words of an arrestee she sees on television, and she tries to figure out how to get into prison.

So this show has more of a slice of life theme, but because the main character, Kiriko, is trying to get into prison it gives ultimate cozy mystery vibes. She gathers intel on her quests by asking former inmates for advice on crime and scenarios straight out of TV crime dramas. It’s interesting to see if Kiriko will complete her prison challenge and the people she meets along the way. It’s a wholesome and heartwarming drama about overcoming grief, starting over, and having a renewed passion for life. The chemistry between this ensemble cast makes it so enjoyable to watch and I’d love to read the original novel this series is based off of.

Monk

After the unsolved murder of his wife, Adrian Monk develops obsessive-compulsive disorder, which includes his terror of germs and contamination. His condition costs him his job as a prominent homicide detective in the San Francisco Police Department, but he continues to solve crimes with the help of his assistant and his former boss.

While this show was airing I never paid attention to it much but recently I’ve becoming a fan of the series via watching it on streaming platforms. Monk is a character for sure which makes the show entertaining but he has a special charm to his personality that makes him endearing as the series lead. He’s smart and even though he has some nontraditional sleuthing methods he gets the job done and helps to get the trickiest of cases solved. The team Monk works with is equally entertaining and their varying differences give them a rag-tag family kind of feel.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

A freakishly strong, but totally sweet girl is caught between the love for her arrogant, yet gorgeous boss, and her handsome but disinterested childhood crush.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon is one of my top favorites on my K-drama list. The genre is an interesting fusion of murder mystery, fantasy, and slapstick comedy. The love triangle I felt was a bit lop-sided (we know who Bong Soon will end up with), but I liked how she and the CEO fall in love. Their constant witty banter was too funny. My favorite part of the drama was Bong Soon’s family; they had me laughing through the whole show! Definitely a must watch if you like action comedy shows!
