Slice of Life: Winter Wrap-Up 2026

Winter has come to an official end!  But even though the season is technically over I won’t see any resemblance of actual spring weather for a while (Thanks, Michigan) I’m not sad to see the season go, because winter is my least favorite time of the year. I’m most definitely ready for warmer weather! Here are some of my highlights from Winter 2025/2026.

Jinya Ramen

In January , I got to try a new ramen restaurant with friends. This restaurant chain is known for its slow-cooked ramen made with broth simmered in-house. The food and drinks were so good and I can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu.

Hudson’s Holidays at Detroit Historical Museum

I stopped by the Detroit Historical Museum in January to see what was new and to check out their exhibition Hudson’s Holidays. They recreated window displays and themed sections how the department store set them up in the past. Founded as a humble clothier for men and boys in 1881, J.L. Hudson Company reportedly racked up an average of 100,000 sales per day by the 1950s, and its 25-story building was the world’s tallest department store until 1961.

Hell’s Kitchen

Hell’s Kitchen is a Broadway musical inspired by Alicia Keys’ life, featuring her music and new songs and is about a young woman finding her voice in 1990s New York City. I loved this musical so much and the new arrangement of notable songs by Keys made it so engaging to listen to.

Holidays at Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad

I took a trip to Huckleberry Railroad & Crossroads Village to experience their Christmas event since I had so much fun at their Halloween one. As always a ride on their historic trains is my favorite part, but I loved watching their Christmas revue show and taking in the sights while walking around the park.

Birthday Tea Time!

I went to tea time with my mom to celebrate my birthday early in February as it’s one of my favorite things to do. The service at this local tea room is the best and I love how they have a variety of tea packages that are inexpensive. The tea sandwiches were delicious and they event put a birthday candle on the hummingbird cake I had for dessert.

My Birthday!

As always, it’s not a birthday without some cake, This year I chose a Jurassic Park theme as it’s one of my favorite film franchises. These films started my passion for dinosaurs! The cake turned out so well!
