Indie Bookstores to Visit in Metro Detroit Pt.7
Hello everyone! I love visiting independent bookstores and shopping at local businesses regularly. Because it’s important to #shopsmall, here are some bookstores in the Metro Detroit area that you should visit when you’re here. Some of these shops have websites that you can shop at as well if you can’t shop in person! (Previous List Here)
Love and Other Books

This one is for the Romance readers! Located in Ferndale, Michigan this shop focused mainly on Romance novels (traditional and indies), but also carries other genres as well as fun bookish merch. Though small in scale this bookstore has so many things to shop from and I love the colorful artwork that adorns the walls. I’ve been able to discover many new and local indie authors through this bookstore!
Kitab Cafe and Bookstore

Kitab’s mission is driven by the belief that books have the power to inspire, educate, and connect people from all walks of life. This cafe and bookstore is located Hamtramck, Michigan. They carry boosk about topics including self-improvment, social justic, and spirituality (in English and Arabic). It’s a welcoming cafe with tasty food and drinks. A great place to get some work done, chill, or read a good book.
Flyleaf

This is intimate bookstore, bar and cafe is located in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Flyleaf is equal parts lounge and bookstore. They have cozy seating, warm fireplaces, and a sizable menu for those who want to snuggle up with a good book or catch up over a coffee. They have two floors full of books and tables to dine at. I recommend getting there early or not visiting during a busy day (I went on Indie Bookstore Day) to leisurely browse the books.
Schuler Books

Since 1982, Schuler Book is an independent shop with a wide array of new and used titles, plus gifts, stationery, and games. They have 4 locations in total and each store (I’ve been to two locations) I’ve visited provides its own unique experience. The staff is friendly and offers lots of great recs while also eing eager to chat about books. You’ll find yourself lost in the shelves of this wonderful indie store for sure!
Stay tuned for part eight! What bookstores do you like to visit in your area?
