Today’s Topic: Winter Essentials Tag

Crackling Fire: Who is your favorite cold character warmed up towards the end?

I’ll be honest and say that Bibi (main character) was grating at first, but once I got to know more about her and her family dynamic I understood her better. She grew on me a lot and I think the plot not only did a great job of her self-discovery journey (of choosing a path after high school), but also allowing her family to finally see Bibi for Bibi. She was often misjudged for being superficial when she actually has a big heart.
Snowflakes: What is a book that was full of unique characters?

The novel never had a dull moment and kept me constantly engaged. There were so many cool action-packed scenes, an eclectic cast of characters including the villains which are the stuff of nightmares.
Gingerbread Family: Which fictional family would you want to be a part of?

The part of the novel I resonated with most is Deja’s relationship with her grandma, Queen, who has passed on and how they share such a deep connection with each other. It reminded me of the days I spent with my grandma growing up.
Blizzard: What is a book that had you confused the whole time?

My only complaint about the novel is that I do wish she had structured the novel a bit cleaner instead of the bits of pieces of a coming of age story presented for the readers. Because of the page length of the novel, it feels like certain parts of the story are missing and as a whole the novel feels a bit disjointed.
Gift-giving: What is the last book that was gifted to you?

This was gifted to me by the publisher! The Snowman Code is heartwarming middle-grade novel about a 10-year-old girl named Blessing who befriends a 600-year-old snowman, Albert, during the longest winter ever in London.
Snowball: What is the biggest book you’ve ever read?

This is a long read, but it is fast-paced. I think at times the novel packs a lot of information into the first novel, and some of the content could have been cut and put into book two. It is a lot to digest at once, but the concise nature of Sambury’s writing made it easy for things to grasp.
Wrapping Paper: What is your most beat-up book?

I keep my books in fantastic condition!
Christmas Lights: What is a book you own that has many colors on the cover?

The romance and concept of a late night radio host who ends up finding love reminded me of classic 90s/2000s romances that I grew up watching at the movies. I appreciated how Kaila’s and Nathaniel’s (the main characters) romance takes its time as they heal from previous broken relationships and discover a new chapter in their lives.
Ice Skating: What is a book that had a plot that was all over the place?

As a whole this novel was very underwhelming and the pacing was so slow (a bit too slow in my opinion). I felt that the author was trying to tackle a lot of topics within the story and the way the themes were layered was sometimes confusing and hard to follow.
Christmas Tree: Who is your favorite character of all time? Yes, you can only choose one!

Luciana, who narrates the story, is also an entertaining protagonist and as readers get to know her they become more engrossed in the story. I was curious to see how her journey would progress through the novel as navigates through her own life while being thrust into the role of a sort of caregiver for her grandma.
The Star: What’s a book you look forward to rereading each year?

I really don’t reread books at all.

What?! You never reread? Is that because you have a fantastic memory and always remember exactly how things go?
As for The Libray of the Dead, I loved that one. It was just the right mix (to my taste, I mean) of fantasy and horror and just plain ol’ good characterisation. I still flash back to that story now and again!
I think I hardly re-read but I’m already onto the next story and I have a long list of books to read, lol.
