Favorite Anime Vol.3
Hello everyone! I decided to share some of my favorite Anime shows with you all. This list is by no means all my favorites but stick around for more show recommendations. Enjoy these picks! (Click Here for Part Two)
A Terrified Teacher At Ghoul School
Haruaki Abe is happy to finally fulfill his dream of becoming a teacher. That happiness is short-lived after he arrives at Hyakki Academy and finds out the school is full of monsters! Can Abe overcome his cowardice and get his supernatural students under control? Join the timid teacher and his bizarre class for a tale of ghoulish mischief and paranormal education.
It’s a silly, no nonsense anime with a wacky premise. At it’s core it’s a school anime with paranormal elements, but the story and characters have a lot of heart. It’s fun to watch each episode and I never know what wacky shenanigans Abe and his students will get into.
Skip and Loafer
This country girl is ready for the big city! Well, at least she thought she was. Mitsumi’s dream is to attend a prestigious school and make the world a better place. But when she finally gets to Tokyo, it turns out she isn’t exactly prepared for city life. Luckily, she runs into Shima, a sweet and handsome classmate who becomes her first friend! Can she make it in Tokyo with Shima by her side?
This anime is the comfy kind of anime that leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling. I like the slice of life school story mixed with a little bit of romance. The characters feel very developed and realistic making the viewers connect with the story. Each episode truly puts a smile on my face and I love the friendships depicted in the story. Mitsumi is now one of my favorite anime protagonists.
Yuri On Ice
Yuri Katsuki carried the hope of all Japan on his shoulders in the Figure Skating Grand Prix, but suffered a crushing defeat in the finals. He returned to his hometown in Kyushu and hid away in his family’s home, half wanting to continue skating and half wanting to retire. That was when the five-time consecutive world champion, Victor Nikiforov, suddenly showed up with his teammate, Yuri Plisetsky, a young skater starting to surpass his seniors. And so the two Yuris and the Russian champion Viktor set out to compete in a Grand Prix like none the world has ever seen!
This anime is truly a delight! I love the art of figure skating which is what originally drew me to the show (that and it’s ever rising popularity in the US). The animation is beautiful and striking! I loved how smooth the skate sequences are (they filmed Olympic skaters in order to create these scenes) and I can see how hard the team worked to bring this show to life. If you’re looking for a sports anime with heart, this is the show to watch!
Lovely Complex
Love is unusual for Koizumi Risa and Ootani Atsushi, who are both striving to find their ideal partner in high school—172 cm tall Koizumi is much taller than the average girl, and Ootani is much shorter than the average guy at 156 cm. To add to their plights, their crushes fall in love with each other, leaving Koizumi and Ootani comically flustered and heartbroken Lovely★Complex follows Koizumi and Ootani as they encourage each other in finding love and become close friends. Maybe they possess a chemistry yet unknown, but could love ever bloom between the mismatched pair?
I’ve never finished the manga for this series, but I have seen the live-action film a thousand times. I know the story, but this is the first time I have watched the anime all the way through. It does capture the essence of the manga. It really is a romantic comedy in every way (with a small bit of angst thrown in). It’s laugh out loud funny, the characters get into crazy situations, and the banter between Risa and Koizumi is highly entertaining. I love the cast of characters in this series and it’s a fun watch.
Cells at Work
This is a story about you. A tale about the inside of your body… According to a new study, the human body consists of approximately 37 trillion cells. These cells are hard at work every day within a world that is your body. From the oxygen carrying Red Blood Cells to the bacteria fighting White Blood Cells, Get to know the unsung heroes and the drama that unfolds inside of you!
As the synopsis says, this is an anime about what goes on inside the human body. The show is educational while also being lots of fun! It’s humorous and the “characters” such as the Red and White Blood Cells have a lot of personality. I’ve learned more about the human body in this anime than I felt like I did back in school. I like that it teaches you things while being action-packed and entertaining.
Wotakoi: Love is Hard For Otaku
The main characters are Narumi, a female office worker who hides her fujoshi lifestyle, and Hirotaka, a handsome and capable company man who is a game otaku. The two seem perfect for each other, but love is difficult for otaku.
This anime is cute, lighthearted, and full of nerdiness. I always find myself laughing at each episode and I like it’s relatability. It’s cute to see two longtime friends who decided to become a couple and to see them adapt to being a couple. Anyone is apart of a fandom, a gamer, or a nerd in general will enjoy this show and how it tackles being a geek in the workplace.
Welcome to the Ballroom
Third-year middle school student Tatara Fujita is a guy who has no plans for his future or dreams, but tries to find something he can pursue with his whole life. With him being bullied and extorted, he is saved from delinquents by a man named Kaname Sengoku, a motorcycle-riding dance instructor. Tatara is entered into the Ogasawara Dance Studio in which he is shown the ropes of the world of Competitive Ballroom Dancing.
The animation is spectacular and I love the detail put into the dance sequences. But this show is not all about glittery ball gowns and tuxedos, it’s more so focused on the hard-work that these dancers put into their art. The main character, Fujita learns to fall in love with dancing and is determined to show that he’s got what it takes to compete. You’ll be dancing along with this anime for sure!
