What spooky reads are you most excited about in your TBR list/pile right now?
This is a slow-burn horror that lifts a veil on the institutions that profit on exclusion and the toll of giving everything to a world that will never love you back.
What’s your favorite revenge novel?
I love the way Savvy grows on her journey to not only better herself but to do all the things she wants to do on her own. The breakup is hard on her no doubt, but she uses this reinvention to not only heal her spirit but her heart.
What’s a horror or thriller/crime book you wish you could experience for the first time?
It’s hard to talk about this novel without spoiling it, but I do recommend going in blind to get the full reading experience. This novel delivered on the thrills and the chills. I highly recommend it!
Sucks to suck! You were just given a handful of your least favorite candy. The one not even your siblings or friends will trade for. What candy is it and what spooky book did you want to love that disappointed you?
felt that the author was trying to tackle a lot of topics within the story and the way the themes were layered was sometimes confusing and hard to follow. If you’re looking for a traditional ghost story (like I was) maybe skip this novel. But I did enjoy how the novel explores the concept of being indebted to someone else whether that be financially, emotionally, or culturally.
Time to put on your costume! If you could exist in one spooky novel, which one would it be? Who would your best friend be?
I don’t think I would want to be in a horror novel, to be honest.
What’s your favorite haunted house book and/or television show?
One of my favorites is The House. While reading this book the plot reminded me a bit of one of my favorite animated Halloween films Monster House with a mixture of other classic horror elements. The house is a living, breathing entity and all of the objects have a life of their own. from the detailed descriptions of it’s dark exterior and it’s uncanny ability to know what the main character’s needs are it puts the reader on edge.
The food question. You can ONLY pick one from each would you rather. A. Chocolate or Sour Candy? B. Coffee or tea? C. Apple or pumpkin pie?
Chocolate, coffee, and apple pie are my choices!

This novel expands on the true story of the West Indian slave Tituba, who was accused of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts. it’s a riveting novel and one of my top favorite book club reads ever!
Which book on your shelves or audiobook library has the scariest book cover?
The Liminal Zone is a collection of stories originally written for the LINE manga app in Japan and has now been converted into graphic novel form. The collection consists of four stories and each story brings its own uniqueness to the collection while all equally being spine-tingling.
It’s Summerween and it’s hot outside! What book(s) do you recommend that give off summer vibes? Think lakes, cabins beaches, etc. Whatever reminds you of summer!
All of these reads not only have Summertime covers, but they are set during the season as well!
You and your friends are exploring a well known haunted house. You get separated and suddenly you hear screams coming from somewhere upstairs. You run into the next room and find two of your friends. Which 2 fictional characters are they? Who do you want in this situation with you?
Trick or treat! Stephen King, H. P. Lovecraft, Mary Shelley, and Shirley Jackson are at your front door. Who do you give the best and biggest candy bar to?
Mary Shelley because she is the Queen of horror to me!
What is your favorite spooky book to movie adaptation where both of them are good?
This film sticks close to its source material very closely while adding some new elements. I liked the setting of the 1960s and the overall autumnal October Halloween setting. The plot of a sinister book was an excellent way to tie very different stories all together to make the movie cohesive in a sense.

Such a fun idea and I enjoyed reading your answers (Mary Shelley, yes!). I would love to do a Maryse Condé project and read through all her books, including a reread of Tituba. Such good stuff. As for the two friends I’d like to find in the next room, I’ll pick Lauren from The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler and Noemi from Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, because they’re both smarter and cooler-in-a-crisis than I am, but I’m good at doing what I’m told, and I think they could always use an extra pair of reliable hands when the world is burning.
