What I’m Listening To…Country Girlz

Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In my segment “What I’m Listening To” I share some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist consisting of five tracks.

June is Black Music Appreciation Month! Created by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, this month celebrates the Black musical influences that comprise an essential part of our nation’s treasured cultural heritage. To celebrate, this month’s playlist features some talented Black Female Country singers. Enjoy!

Guitar Lady by Brittney Spencer

Brittney Spencer is an American country singer–songwriter. In 2020 Spencer received notable attention following a viral Twitter video showing Spencer singing a cover of a song by the Highwomen. Spencer has such smooth vocals and her discography is full of catchy tunes and beautiful ballads. Guitar Lady is a perfect track that captures the feelings of Summer.

Buckle Bunny by Tanner Adell

Tanner Adell is an independent country pop singer and songwriter who has been releasing music since 2021. Adell is known for her ability to blend classic country with pop and hip hop influences which can be showcased in Buckle Bunny and many other songs. She turns the original meaning of the song title into a positive term about independence and fearlessness.

Pretty Little Devils by Reyna Roberts

Reyna Roberts is an American country singer, songwriter, and pianist known for her unique blend of country, pop, and other genres. She’s also recognized for her advocacy for recognizing the contributions of Black artists to country music history. Pretty Little Devils is a catchy tune that will have you dancing in no time!

Bad Case of The Blues by Lina Martell

Linda She became the first commercially successful Black female artist in the country music field and the first to play the Grand Ole Opry. As one of the first African-American country performers, Martell helped influence the careers of future Nashville artists of color. Her vocals are stunning and I love how she adds her own unique spin on traditional Country music.

Nothing Compares To You (Official Music Video) ft. Kane Brown by Mickey Guyton

Mickey Guyton is an American country music singer and songwriter. Guyton is known for her powerful vocals, songwriting, and advocacy for diversity and inclusion in country music. This song is a fun duet between Guyton and Brown and I love how their voices blend together in this track.

I hope you enjoyed this playlist! What are some country artists that you enjoy listening to? Comment below!

  1. I liked Nothing Compares to You: cute and catchy! Lately I’ve just been creating new playlists because I’ve liked a single song, but I need to go back and listen to some of those artists now. Sheesh, that’s getting to be as bad as my TBR!

  2. Brilliant! Although they’re not women, we enjoyed watching (on the TV) sets by Shaboozey and Myles Smith at Glastonbury this last weekend. I also have a soft spot for Brandi Carlile if we’re going general country singer songwriter.

    1. I do like Shaboozey, but am not familiar with Myles Smith. I’ll have to check out his music. Thanks for the recommendation.
